Yes.

But Koi are not pets. They're fish.

Yes, but I dont think hubby would fight me for the two cats and the siamese fighting fish.

Absolutely! But it will never happen :D

And I'll respectfully disagree that fish are not pets.

No fight here because there is no question that I would get them :praise:

Fish are pets, and I few knew how to take care of them as much as my DH I would definitely fight for them.

I would take the cats and let DH have the dog. I love my pup dearly but I don't think I could manage him AND my kid on my own.

Yes. My dogs stay with me. That's already clear to SO, even though we got both together. He could keep the rescued pitt bulls, even though they're my babies too.

DH would probably put up a fight for one of the bunnies, but I would win in the end! Bunnies should never be separated from their bonded "mate" anyway (I use that term loosely, since they're fixed), so I would get both.

We talked about this before getting married. Even though the cats were his coming in to the relationship, I would get the boy cat and he would get the girls. The boy used to live under the bed and be terrified of people until he moved in with me. Now he's a lap kitty who demands belly rubs and sleeps on my feet. So He's MINE!

We agreed that I would keep our Oscar fish because they were mine before the marriage and DH doesn't know how to take care of them. According to DH, fish are worth half a cat, so 1 cat + 2 fish = 2 cats. That way its all fair and even.

I take care of both the dogs 100%, so god forbid anything happened, they both go with me. No discussion.

I think it's reasonable to fight for custody of pets. We have an emotional attachment to our pets, but I think couples should realize who would be the best owner for the pet. Right now I do nearly everything for our dog. But if situations were to change (e.g. we moved and my commute was further etc), DH would have to step up and be the primary care taker.

If it were to come down to it right now, I'd probably get her, even though it'd break DH's heart. Guess that means we're stuck with each other. Good thing I don't mind.

Seriously? My dh would charge me alimony if I gave him the fish!

Not sure about the cat b/c we have children. That's a toughy. I was the one who adopted him, feed him, litter box, etc., but my older son is really attached to him. Having kids changes the entire ball game.

No need to fight, I stipulated in our prenup that I would get the dog. I would not sign it otherwise. He does want visitation though should it be an issue.

I think it may depend upon the fish's patterning and age...probably more attributes, as well. I have betta fish and they really range in price depending upon the coloring and tail shapes, etc... Of course, they don't go for $20K. lol

It's the same with Guppies. It's like the show dogs of fishy worlds! I once spent $30.00 on a pair of breeding guppies. That was a lot for something less than an inch long that eats once a day and doesn't give me any kind of profit return.

I already told FI that we're making putting that into our prenup---I get the dog.

Oh and FI still had his salt water fish tank there is no doubt in my mind that he would be sure he got that whole tank considering how insanely expensive tropical fish/live rock/coral are.

Well, we are (getting a divorce) and there is no need to fight over pet custody. First, the last two dogs (Griffin and Biscuit) were in my name. I bought them; I signed contracts for them; I registered Biscuit's pedigree; I filled out the license forms for the Connecticut town in which we lived saying Biscuit was mine and will do the same for Griffin. I took Biscuit to all his vet appointments in both Connecticut and Virginia. If my husband had tried to say Biscuit was his, he would have looked like Woody Allen during his custody dispute, a "dad" who was clueless about who his "kid's" caretakers were! Plus, my husband wouldn't have wanted him! A dog means work! Did somebody forget that? Same with a kid. My husband would make sure that all pets and kids were left with me.

We celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary a few days ago (mid divorce). I went down to Virginia for the occasion. That night, after dinner, we watched one of our favorite movies on DVD, "A Touch of Class". We can recite the dialogue by now! Glenda Jackson plays an English woman divorced from an Italian man. "He kept the cars; I kept the children." George Segal plays a married American man with whom she becomes romantically involved. George Segal asks her why she kept her ex-husband's name (Alessio). She says, "It was the only thing he was giving away". He asks if her ex-husband doesn't "give her something" for the children. She says, "He's rather funny about that; if I don't give him something for the cars, he won't give me anything for the children."

Why are men so...infantile?

I thought it went without saying that no husband had ever been to a vet!

Even though Oscar was my Mother's Day present {we went to the shelter to pick out a pet} my husband zeroed in on Oscar and that was IT. Oscar wanted NOTHING to do either any of us, me, husband or son, but my husband persisted and slowly Oscar came around. It is VERY obvious that while he loves me and our son he ADORES my husband, so no, I would not fight for custody and upset Oscar just to stick it to my husband.

Is Oscar a cat or a dog? Not that it really matters...what matters is that you are protecting his welfare, putting him first!

I would give him the dog and the kids! :naughty: He would be stuck with them forever, and I would be free as a bird.

Ok, just a few issues with my grown kids never moving out.....it's a fantasy, running away to live a carefree life......

Ohhh yes.

Hoping to never travel down that road, though.

...Perhaps we'd plan for join custody. Is that silly?
