Your ring is so pretty! As much as I appreciate things I have learned here on PS, there is one major disadvantage to reading here: a very skewed sense of size on the finger.

Where I live average is probably around a half a carat. I have some friends who have maybe 1/4 and some up to 3/4 but only a handful of people have above that. I think only one of my friends has over a carat. Really most people in the US have well under a carat. I read an article from 2 years ago that said the average was .38 for the US IIRC.

Your ring is big and beautiful. Halos are wonderful but you really have a very large stone! I know DSS is bad and this place doesn't help. But embrace your beautiful EC and know you have a gorgeous large stone :)

I totally agree! Like I was saying, I just grew so accustomed to seeing large rings on here, and I started to think that anything under 2 carats was just 'average' - I really had to step back and look at what everyone else around me is wearing! :)

In my hometown, the vast majority have under 1 carat, and most probably have .5 or less. The diamonds that I see in my new city are somewhat larger, but most are still under 1 carat. I have only seen a few 1.5 carat center stones, and I haven't noticed any larger than that. I know that they do exist, but they definitely aren't the norm.

Everyone at my job (I work in a hospital, so this includes office positions, nurses, other specialists who work for the hospital, etc) has under 1 carat, except for one girl - and I think hers is right around a carat, or maybe just slightly larger. She is higher up in the company, and I actually overheard her talking about how huge hers is, and how she has trouble lifting it (joking, of course).

It really opened my eyes and I realized that I already had DSS, even though I don't even have my ring yet! :)

well I think your ring is gorgeous and certainly looks big (not cocktail ring HUGE but substantial and a really nice size!!) If it really bothers you then I think a halo would make it appear much larger but I think it is beautiful as is!

I think your ring is beautiful and I love an un-haloed EC (I am biased!). I think the size looks very substantial on your hand and I think that you are being swayed by a) all the huge rings here on PS (which is NOT representative of "real life"!) and b) your competitive friend. I think your ring looks beautifully proportioned for your finger. Personally I think a halo would make it look too blingy and it would lose it's beautiful clean lines - but of course that is just my personal opinion. Maybe take it off for a few days, and then look at your photos - it certainly doesn't look small in those!

I had not replied back to this thread just so I could pretend I was being a good PSer and stay away... But alas, it is just not possible!!!

You guys are so great. I really mean it because it seems like you genuinely like the ring! (it's okay if you don't though, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! ). Like my utter and total DSS support group, esp since I thought that was a hideous photo of the ring! I'm tempted to reply to each and every message even if it floods up the topic... and I still might.

It also didn't help when I saw the most recent blog https://www.pricescope.com/blog/9-tips-combat-dss-diamond-shrinkage-syndrome and when I finally got to the bottom, lo' and behold a familiar topic name came up! :o

Well I am proud to say I was able to temporarily cure my DSS when each step of the 9 step program listed on the blog didn't work 100% for me! My solution? I wore the ring in the pic below after buying a ring in my ring size that had a smaller centerstone for a few days and put on my e-ring to see the comparison and WOW. There was a huge difference in size and it blew my mind illusions away! Success! Not that I don't love the smaller ring as well, because I most certainly do. My brain had just got used to a different shape and size for a while and that did scratched the itch for now! Hopefully I'll get home just to take a picture of exactly what I saw in comparison!

My dying candle flame for my e-ring has now turned into a torch... kinda! You just never can really snuff out the fiery passion for big shiny things!

It's a Vintage Orange Blossom ring in an illusion setting, I believe it's a 0.35-0.4 ct?

Cinna- I LOVE your ring... seriously. I have a 1.55RB D and let me tell you, I feel at times it's not big enough. :nono: and I know that I am totally and utterly lucky to have been afforded a ring like this!

Don't listen to the backhanded, passive remarks of your friend. Next time she asks you to wear her ring and then procced to remark how large it looks on you- all the while implying that urs looks smaller on your hand than hers does....give her a swift backhand with that huge rock of hers....she will certainly never again forget the weight of her ring... :angryfire: jk. don't actually do it.

a halo would be nice, but I also like the clean lines of the EC sans halo.

Focus on - finding a beautiful blingy wedding band.... !
searching through the under 1 ct ring thread- those rings ae beautiful, tons of eye candy to quench your thirst, and make you realize how substantial your ring is and how lucky you are.... put it into a more realistic perspective.

Also- when I feel DSS rearins, I put on my ring, put my hand on my hip, and stand in front of the mirror...gives you the perspective of looking at someone else and makes you see how everyone else sees it...as a beautiful HUGE rock.

Mine is an upgrade and whenever I'm feeling DSS I always go put my origial on for a day or two and blamo no more DSS, so you did the right thing. I also find that putting it on the other hand helps a little. Weird, I know, but it seems to work for me.

I'm glad you found your cure. PS is awesome, but also pretty bad for we sparkly wh*res.

Much to my surprise, I found my ring in the 9 ways to combat DSS blog :)) It was under the example of getting a halo. I can say with all honestly that it has worked for me. I no longer have DSS. It is an alternative to keep in your back pocket ;))

ROFLMAO. I can see myself getting shot and hung next time someone posts about DSS and I reply: Buy another diamond ring, a smaller one and wear it for a while. It will cure everything! Perhaps not everyone's solution, but I am very happy you found yours!

why don't we focus on the most important thing here.

You have a man that loves you. You have someone to curl up next to on the couch in front of a movie. You have EVERYTHING!
You should care about the size of HIS HEART more than the size of your ring which by the way is GORGEOUS!
You are a lucky lady, a very lucky lady

Seriously? Awesome, awesome ring. Elegant. I saw it and said "WOW". Size is not everything, even though yours is still really pretty big. How many times could I say elegant about this one . . .

Wear a tiny diamond for awhile, it works.

I think DSS is not just a matter of size seeming smaller but more of a feeling of wanting something more visually stimulating. I have a good size EC and didnt have DSS per se nor was I looking to upgrade but I just recently added a chunky eternity band. The eternity band is nice for stand alone or for a big finger covering blingy look. Going back and forth changes it up visually too.............my suggestion is a blingy/bold/chunky eternity band!

first off, your ring is absolutely beautiful. my first diamond er was an ec. i LOVE ec's! (i ended up trading up due to its obvious inclusions)

second off, your ring is BIG!!! as others mentioned... BIG by anybody's standards!

third, i wouldn't halo it due to the step cuts. i find tiny rbc's surrounding the classy lines of a step cut just confuse the matter. too much going on. what i would do, however, if you're wanting more, is to simply add ec sidestones. i love 3-stone ec rings. they're just soooooooo clean and crisp and different but truly gorgeous especially when light hits an ec just right... oh the rainbows that are shot off! ec's are like prisms and the flashes of color are spectacular.

IT IS A BIG RING! i'm aware of the effect hanging around pricescope has on everyone, myself included. maybe taking a break from ps isn't a bad idea.

*slaps cinna with a wet fish and runs away*

This! :D I traded my asscher solitiare for an RB, and while I love the RB because of the larger face up size & additional sparkle for my ering, I will always truly love the look of stepcuts the best (I see a stpcut RHR in my future!) So, I told me DH that one day I'd love a 3-stone EC (40th bday or anniversary?)

The point being, the grass is always greener on the other side - there are some things that I like better about my RB, and there were some things that I liked better about my asscher. Maybe you can pick out a RHR in a brilliant cut stone for your first wedding anniversary or something.

honestly, i think that your ring is gorgeous. I had the same problem with my first center stone and i got an upgrade of almost a full carat more than what i had. AANNNDDD if course, i still have the DSS kicking in every once in a (often) while so i slip on my smaller original E Ring and wear it around for a day or two...then my upgrade looks huge and i'm set for a while:) I do think that some cuts just naturally look larger than others so I agree with the advice to go a little lower in color in order to get a larger carat weight in maybe like an RB. I did this with my upgrade and i'm glad that i did. Good luck and wear it proud girlie...that's a lot of pretty bling!!

I agree with everyone, your ring (and nails) look smashing! However the DSS monster is lurking in me too. My cure was to return my ring I was under the 30days. My husband was speechless when I decided that but he's on board now sort of. My ring is in the review phase and hopefully I will get a refund. I'm going to save up money and go larger eventually.
I like your idea of switching out rings every few days.
