hi indy! if you will go to this site iht.com/articles/2002/12/05/rfur.php you will find an article speaking of fashionistas and when fur can be worn. according to the article 2002 was a turning point for the wearing of fur. the author states that fur is no longer only a heavy dark pelt for winter but lighter versions are suitable other seasons. that is my version of what i read. for the correct version read the article.

i think it is personal and you can and should please yourself.

Sorry...the whole moral thing was probably due to me asking if it was real mink or whatever. I just wasn''t sure but I tried to keep that short and sweet because I realize that is not what she''s asking and I''ve been on the other end (asking one thing and the thread going completely the other way...ie: when I asked about breeding my dog and whether it would change his personality and ended up with a few pages on what a bad pet owner I was
40.gif
).

So, sorry if my initial comment is what made people start commenting on the moral side of it...I really didn''t intend for that.

As I said before, wear whatever makes you feel fabolous...it''s your day!!

M~
Glad I missed that.

And this is the reason why I''ve learned, no matter how bad I may want to make a thread about something, if it''s in any way controversial, I just don''t. Because it inevitably goes off the intended subject/question.

And I''m not implying people just on this board do it, they do it everywhere. It just makes posting not so much fun...

Having said all that, I say wear the dress IG, although I don''t know the fashion rules of when and when not one should wear it, if they exist. I''ve never, and probably will never have the occasion to wear it. BTW, I''ve got a fur cape and a mink stole I''ll sell ya.

Thanks Crown! Do you think I can include that article in the program so my guests know I''m not making a fashion faux pas?

Haha.

Thanks Ellen... Ooooh... I''ll take ''em!

Harriet: Glad you like the dress! I think the one I tried on is a little more trumpet-y at the bottom and it does have a bit of train. It totally shows off my womanly curves. I think (if I get it) that FI is just going to fall over when he sees me.

That''s what I''m supposed to be going for, right ladies? Movie-star-feeling + knocking-out-FI potential = "The Dress"

But I''ll take a few days to think about it...

The dress in question is almost exactly the same as Curlygirl''s (who knows, maybe it IS Curlygirl''s!). The train''s a bit longer though.

I know I probably SHOULD feel guilty... but somehow I don''t. I confess! I confess! There''s no law that says you have to be consistent, is there? Few of us are! If you''re anti-fur but enjoy a tasty steak or a nice hunk of pork (never mind diamond mines, check out slaughterhouses!) or if your shoes are leather, that''s up to you! As for me, I''m certainly inconsistent. I don''t eat mammals and only buy free range eggs, but buying a second hand strip of fur doesn''t bug me. I don''t claim to be holy! Or consistent! Or even right! And I guess I do feel guilty ENOUGH to rationalize that I bet it was a horrible mean nasty mink anyway.

(Covers head for oncoming barrage...)
Guilt is one of the most pointless emotions. I have lived with it for years. I shed it, and I feel 1000X better.

Let me be the devil''s advocate for just a moment:

I understand people''s stance on fur, and why people want to share that with Indy. It''s honorable to believe in something other than yourself and your own good. But just like any other advice it is best to listen and make your own decision. I think you have, and I applaud you for posting something you felt strongly about being it unpopular or not. In the end, we are all adults and can handle the consequences of our decisions.

With that said, I find it amusing to think how much people are into saving animals and boycott fur and become vegetarian (barring hating vegetables) all in the name of "doing the right thing", yet they buy expensive things like diamonds while there are honestly poor diseased, war ravaged cities in this world who could do more with those few thousand than the metal holding it on your finger....And you just need to go to your local Boys & Girls clubs or parish outreaches to see perfect candidates. Until one lives like Mother Theresa, there is a level of hypocracy that will always exist. Rationalize anyway you want, we all do SOMETHING inevitably unkind to mother nature (and humans are a part of it). We just have to pick and chose our battles.

What I find funny is just that some people are more interested in proctecting animals than the very human beings they live with. (can''t say I always blame them.)

Well said, Nicrez. Sadly, we're probably all morally inconsistent, each in our own way. I bet even Mother Theresa had a bit of blood on her hands from SOMEWHERE. (If that's not sacrilege). Even Gandhi was apparently mean to his wife!

I guess all we can do is try a little harder each day to do less harm and more good.

Crown: I like that attitude!

If it is anything like Curl''ys get it! You know you love it & who cares what anyone else thinks. Chances are nobody will chew you out on your wedding for wearing fur.

I think with the light color of the fur, it shouldn''t be a problem. And hopefully any anti-fur guests will just think it''s fake fur :)

Mandarine: Errrr... yeah, I''m afraid so. The irony is that I''m basically a vegetarian. So I guess I irrationally figure I''m entitled to the odd fox or mink, given all the cows that have NOT died for me to eat!
28.gif

I know that''s kooky and inconsistent! But I do love fur. I confess! I confess!
(Personally I have nothing against wearing fur but) I figure, you could also argue that it was from a consignment shop, so this mink did not die for you - it was already used (or at least purchased). I inherited a fur coat, and I figured if I met any animal rights people who objected, I could argue that those muskrats died probably before I was born, and it''s not going to help them for me to throw the coat in the trash!

I''d love to see pictures of the dress. (Haven''t read the whole thread yet...)
