For Christmas, I received an emerald cut diamond... Now I need setting ideas!

I am open to anything as long as it''s:

-white metal, preferably white gold because i dont like the way platinum patinas.
-set the normal way... NS instead of EW.
-has a band thinner than 3.5mm.
-not too busy... I like a clean look. A little bit of pave is nice too.

-not going to cost me a fortune to make!

I like solitaires, but sidestones (diamond & gemstones) are welcome too! Sapphires are my favorite... especially the lighter ones.

It''s 1.5ct F VS2, roughly 7.75 x 5.75mm. Exact dimensions unknown to me at this point because the GIA report is still in my mom''s safe. Here is some pictures of it sitting on my hand and another one in a ring box:

Any idea is greatly appreciated!! Thanks all!

In keepoing with the pave idea... and RHR looks. How about light blue sapphire sides ? The one below has them green and a smaller (1 carat) emerald cut diamond: the bezel set sides got it cited here - of course, justabout 1000 versions are easy to imagine and the type of setting is much easier feasible in gold than platinum.

And this one is just about tops of my list (how about ec center and blue saphire or aqua sides ?)

The first one is slight fussy for me.. i like the second one and especially the bezel set one!

I found some by signedpieces that are simple and timeless:

(This is what the temporary setting will look like)

I like the one Reena posted. It showcases the emerald stone by lifting it up a bit and the pave is there but doesn''t take over. With a 1.5-carat emerald cut you need a ring that will set the stone apart from the setting since the stone is elegantly subtle and nicely proportioned with your fingers as it is now. I also like the simple solitaire from signed pieces but also think that it looks too much like an eng. ring. . .the princess channel one is pretty too! Maybe go with asschers instead???

Upon closer inspection, I think I may have made a mistake... those princess are asshers! I think that one is pretty nice, but I don''t know if they can make the shank taper in towards the diamond with asschers.. maybe traps can be used towards the tips?

I like the one Reena posted as well, but it looks awfully expensive to make... I didn''t want to spend so much money!

I was wondering if those were asschers

The ring Reena posted is from www.theartofplatinum.com Leon Mege makes gorgeous pieces, but works only with platinum so you''d have to have your jeweler make a replica in WG. I guess LM is relatively reasonable in price though so if you ever want a platinum ring, he''s the one to call.

Very pretty since the sapphires will add color but won''t outshine the diamond. Also, they''re more affordable, which is an added bonus.

to be honest i''m not sure that the curvy lines of the pears compliment the square lines of the EC. that''s just my .02 though. what about traps or trillions or shields for sides?

I''ve seen sapphire traps and they just don''t shine enough.. and I have tried on an Emerald w/ trillions and it looked really weird on my hand... too angular.

I really like this--just enough hint of more sparkle while letting that EC really "pop." I''ll take it!

found this on Wink''s CZ site... it looks a lot better than the sharp trillions I saw before.

Hiya, ForteKitty:

I love the last photo with the tanzie cz''s. I really think emerald cuts are very tough to design around, because they''re so simple and angular. I love the idea of two side stones in trap. (or similar) shape. You maintain the angles, but add a little flare.

The stone still blows me away. It''s breathtaking! Mary

That one looks like a sparkler! too bad they don''t have hand pics... it would make this so much easier.

The rings at Signedpieces look very e-ring like (which they are). Is this ok wit you ?

Speaking of colored sides, how unusual can they get ?

unusual by color... or by shape that is. There''s lots of fancy stuff out there

This comes from a custom cutting venue (link), so if violet spinel doesn''t do the trick, there should be other types of material ready to take the shape. This stone is about 6mm wide and long.
