Calling EC experts - opinions please!

Hi! I'm anxiously waiting to see how you like your stone! Did it arrive yet? What do you think of it? I hope it's as nice as you expected it to be! Can you post a picture or two?

IT'S HERE!

Oh my goodness...I'm in love. It is even better than I'd hoped! If loving an EC's look in person is the only way to decide if it's a winner or not, this one takes the prize. It's definitely a keeper!!!

I've spent the time since it got here shooting videos and taking pics for y'all...first, here are some videos:

1) I have an "idealscope" (not the real thing but one I got from Whiteflash as part of my purchase when I bought my ACA stud earrings) and put it under there...here's a video of it in the scope as I move the camera around just a bit. Please excuse the honking geese in the background - I was in my backyard

https://youtu.be/AmD0aZiX_30

2) In my kitchen (and yes, I'm wearing a pink shirt, explains all the pink in the stone here)

https://youtu.be/KReYdRvPCdY

3) Backyard, direct sunlight

https://youtu.be/2Zu_YBb-QlI

4) It even performs well in poor lighting - dark corner of my living room

Here's a pic using my Whiteflash "idealscope"

Here's a couple with it north-south...I'm definitely feeling east-west, but included a comparison pic of east-west and north-south for y'all....what do you think?

It's beautiful and I loooooooove the corners!!!! Wow! From all the videos it really looks like you picked a winner! I usually like EC's N/S but I must admit that the shape of this one looks really good on you E/W! Can't wait to see what you decide!! :appl:

Thanks, ac117!! Aren't those corners to die for?!? I'm so glad I jumped on this stone...I feel like I hit the jackpot!!!

OMG yes droooool worthy!!!! :lickout: :lickout: :lickout: :lickout: I'm also super envious of your tiny fingers!! this stone was meant to be yours!!

East west for sure!! Love the corners.

it is BEAUTIFUL!  I just adore it EW, it really emphasizes the shape imo.

Very pretty stone and it looks great on your hand!!! :appl: Definitely go East/West with it! It looks larger and more substantial that way! Can't wait to see how you have it set! Enjoy!!!

That is a beautiful setting, Pinto!! Yeahhhh I'm gonna have to go east west....just feels right.

Debating between my original plan of plain bezel vs doing sidestones (step cut traps vs tapered bullets).....OR am open to more ideas that are clean and modern, no pave. I want the band itself to be plain metal, and now that I've seen the stone, I'm definitely going with platinum. Not opposed to simple accents like the fleur de lis stuff on the side of the basket in the Miami that Pinto posted.

Time for a new profile pic :naughty:

So, I love Pinto's setting. But it doesn't allow for a close fit band.

No bezel. That particular stone is going to darken, so stick to prongs with a very open basket that lets in a lot of light. Here are my suggestions.

Pinto, I have those two Leon's on my short list!!! Soooo gorg!

Gypsy, where does that first setting with the French cuts along the shank come from? That's awfully pretty...wonder if DK could do something like that for me...

It looks good! Definitely an E/W setting. I do see the G vs X rating for the symmetry, but it is still adorable. I lean towards no side stones for it. It is so charming in its own right without anything else distracting from those corners. If you have the budget go for the graduated french cuts on the sides. I understand they are pretty pricey.
Congrats on a great pick!

First setting is not french cuts. Just straight and tapered baguettes. And I would use CVB for that design, personally. I feel she would do the best job on that.

I don't recall who made that one. It's discontinued though, I remember that. Maybe Vera Wang? She had issues with the quality of her bench, and had problems with people returning and stuff.

Hi! :wavey: I remember you from waaay back! I love your new stone! I also have a rectangular antique K step cut stone being set (platinum, not bezel, but she is great at bezels) by CVB Inspired Design right now. She is a gifted designer and I can't recommend her enough. Her benches are outstanding, just not super fast. Having custom cut side stones will take longer, but that ensures they are the perfect size. She can do modern or antique designs. Gypsy posted a ring she recently did, but look through this thread to see a variety of her work (most recent first). Then she also has pictures on FB as CVB Inspired Design. Even though you'll see a lot of antique design rings, that's only because a lot of people are asking her to make them.

My preference is platinum, also, but if you went E-W bezel, brushed yellow gold would be the best choice for that, in my opinion!

I like the Leon Mege ring with tapered bullets that PintoBean posted!

LawmaLlama's first link showing french cuts also shows Hospatogi's tapered carre cut AVC ring by Steven Kirsch. I thought you might like the carre cuts since you seem to like the baguettes in the Vera Wang ring Gypsy posted. I think the carre cut diamonds would go really, really well with your gorgeous emerald!!!

Good Gawd, that ring is fabulous

Gypsy, I want to learn - I understand the idea of why a bezel would obstruct light and decrease performance, especially if it doesn't allow light to come in thru the bottom - is that still the case even with bezels that have an open gallery, like the JA I posted on page 1, or this one from Enchanted Diamonds? http://enchanteddiamonds.com/v/PT-222R-0

Now that I've been looking around more, I am warming to the idea of a very fine delicate halo, but with a plain metal shank/band, and with the halo designed in a way that it accents the cut corners of my stone, plus claw prongs to hold the stone in place. This Danhov is actually quite similar to the enchanted diamonds one above, just with a halo instead of a bezel http://www.primejeweler.com/danhov-per-lei-emerald-east-west-halo-single-shank-engagement-ring-le104-emew/ Would light entry/return be better in this vs the bezel, since the diamond is actually claw set, bringing the girdle a little higher than the halo?

Gypsy's first pic is Vera Wang, but not sure where you can order it from.

If you have the budget for French cuts - Leon Mege (ah I love to dream about having one of his rings). Here are graduated French cuts.

Of course, totally drool worthy....however, I am going to try to stay below Leon-esque pricing on my setting. ;))

Hello there, DS!!! :) Nice to see you!! CVB's work is, indeed, fabulous - so excited to see yours when it's done!! If you don't mind me asking, can you give me a ballpark on what I'm looking at pricewise for a CVB setting? I'm 99% sure at this point I'm going to go with platinum, and if I go with a more $$$ designer I may just go with a solitaire setting of some sort vs any more diamonds...
