Hi, so my spinel arrived from Berry, it is native cut, but a killer pink. It is a 6x5 mm 0.81 ct pink spinel. As I said, the pink is great. The only downside is that it has a small window. I am not sure how much of a distraction it would be set. I would love opinions in anyone is willing to share. I took lots of pics because I wanted to show it at different angles.

Next to a pink spinel in the Tiffany Blue book. This is the stone that made me want a pink spinel. I think it shows that the color is close, but my stone has a bit more red to it that I don''t notice until I put it next to this picture.

Did you know about the window in advance?

I ask this because I had a quality pink sapphire in almost that same shape, and it was very expensive to set properly. There was no way to get it to look right without widening it out a bit with a halo, an airline, etc. The ring is perfect now, but I would have reservations about starting out on a project of that expense with a stone that had a window. (I hope this does not offend you--this is just my opinion since you asked!)

Thank you amethystguy, I do like the color, and I think the window is small enough that it will not be a distraction when set.

I think that window can easily be disguised after it is set. It is a lovely stone and darn slow to the tiffany spinel. Gorgeous!

I like the color, I'm just not crazy about native cuts, but still a beautiful stone though!

Pink Tower - I kind of thought there might be one by looking at the vendor photo, but did not ask Berry. And no I am not offended at all that you gave me an opinion I asked for.

simplysplendid - than you very much. It is pretty well hidden in the cotton in the box it came in, so I hope it would be in a setting too.

D&T: I like the stones that cutters like Berry and Jeff White cut better, but I will take a native cut stone with top color. I always buy for color first, but that is just my preference

giraffecushion: Thank you!

I''d say if you love the color you can easily overlook the window. Both my padparadscha e-ring and my mahenge spinel have small windows and I love them regardless. Their color does it for me.

The only time the window really bothers me is when the stone(s) are dirty. It then appears to have extinction as well, with the dirt and dinge showing through, but that''s a relatively simple fix.

I love the color of your new spinel!

I think it's gorgeous!!

I don't think the window is a big deal, my pad has a small one, but I still love it for the color and sparkle!

ETA: what's your finger size by the way? I"m thinking of buying a 6x5 stone myself and was wondering if it was too small to be a solitaire.

In terms of window size, that''s a mere louvre panel. I''ve set a patio door before now that''s almost disappeared once in the setting. I''m pretty sure you''ll not notice it.

How are you thinking of setting it?

brandy - thank you. I know about your pad, but I have never seen the other ring. What is that stone?

MTG - Thanks! I am a size 6. I would not put this into a solitaire (well maybe a bezeled one)

LovingDiamonds - I don''t know how I am going to set it yet. I am thinking of getting a bigger pink spinel next year. I usually buy one higher priced stone a year than a few smaller ones. So I will hold on to it until I decide on next year''s big stone. If I set it into a ring I think a three stone with diamond sides would be pretty, but I am not sure. If I get another spinel that is bigger, I would set that one into a ring and make this one into a pendant.

Nice pink color, LtlFirecracker. I''d love to know if it fluoresces in the UV.

Thanks flygirl. Not sure yet, I will figure that out over the weekend maybe.

I put some pictures of the ruby up in the thread where we were having that discussion for you to see.

Pretty color, and I think that window will definitely do a "Houdini" and disappear once set.

Ltl- What a nice color!! I think the window does not look horrible. Most likely you won''t see it much when set. Any ideas yet?

TL - Thanks. I hope so too, because I love this pink color

Icekid - Thank you. No plans yet - I wrote something above. It is really up in the air. I had no plans to get this right now.

szh07. Thanks. I have a few pics of the ruby floating around. But it won't be mine for long. I love rubies, but this is not the stone for me. Hopefully I will find my perfect ruby in the future.

Arcadian - thanks - I really am happy with the color
