I posted this in another thread, but no replies, so I decided to make my own thread.

Hello. :wavey: I'm new, but have been lurking and reading these boards for yrs now. lol

I remember reading about Tacori quality control issues (2006-2008)--- lost melee, bent rings, prong problems, eroded milgrain, etc. Does anyone know if this has been largely resolved? How are the pieces holding up since then?

I, too, am deciding to go the custom route vs Tacori due to this. I feel the price is too high to have a faulty product in any capacity. But I have fallen in LOVE  with one of their designs. And it would make me really sad if I tried to replicate it custom-wise & it fell dangerously short of my satisfaction.

So... I wanted one collective thread on the issue to make a good call. For the ladies who've bought their Tacori rings 2008 & onwards:

1. Can I please have your honest, candid, and objective opinions on the matter?

2. Type of metal your ring is composed of? WG? Plt?

TIA!

If you could link some specific posts about people having issues with their Tacori rings I would love to read them. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.

I have three friends that have Tacori rings, and I have one waiting in the safe. I have never heard them complain about anything involving their rings.

I have a Tacori, but I got it in 2005. I think the quality is excellent but it is handmade so there are slight imperfections. I have had no issues with my milgrain or prongs. I have lost a melee *but* no designer is really above that. Plus it was in an ultra sonic cleaner so kinda my fault. There is so little metal holding a melee that you have to be willing to baby a pave ring. My ring is PLT. I also lost a sapphire. I think I banged my ring really hard on the metal part of a seat belt and it shattered. Tacori replaced it at no charge. Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks so much Tacori!! I LOOOOOOVE your ring! One of my favs on PS. I always gasp every time I happen to stumble upon it. Just beautiful!

@Kagordo. I've noticed these comments here and there from yrs of reading on PS. But I will try my best to do a search for some mentions of the quality issues in the past.

Thanks twinkle! I appreciate the compliment. I was surprised of the imperfections at first but had no idea the difference between cast and handmade jewelry. Now, I am at peace with its little quirks. If you love Tacoris you should look at Bev K jewelry as well. I have a ring from their line and it is perfect. Seriously.

Whew! Hope this helps you out some. I'm glad your friends have not had any issues. I'm hoping the case is that people with unpleasant experiences are more likely to voice them louder than the majority that are satisfied and enjoying their Tacori's privately. ;)) However, the issues can can be concerning at times considering the amount you have to shell out to enjoy one of their gorgeous designs.

Good idea. Do you think she would be able to make a good "rendition" of the Tacori 2628-- understandably with a 20% change in design?
I love that ring! ... after seeing Lotsofsparkle's ring!

Two jewelers told me they had problems with Tacori's but I think it primarily had to do with the open crescent design that was more fragile than a solid shank ring like Tacori Ering's ring.

Hope that worked. Here's my HT2510, in plat and I've had no problems with quality. Granted, I've only had it for 3.5 months, but so far so good.

Thanks for posting this question, I am interested to see the results. Also, is Tacori handmade still? I didn't think they were.

I believe they are handmade.
And I hope to get more results as well. Seems like many on this forum love Tacori, so hopefully a number of them will chime in. =)

Thanks diamondseeker & twinkle. And at least as of the date I got my Tacori (few months ago), they were handcarved.

jenc8866's thread in SMTB forum mentioning the quality of her Tacori reminded me to BUMP this thread. ;))

I'll say this as a distributor of many different brands of settings... If you like vintage design in an engagement ring Tacori is hard to beat in more than one way. Here is why I say this.

a. Quality Control: In the years we've been doing business with them we've had extremely few issues with any of their rings and if we have they take care of it. If there are any probs my assistant Marie knows how to twist arms on behalf of our clients but she's never had to do this with Tacori. They serve gladly and efficiently. If memory serves me correct each ring goes through at least 20 hands before it leaves their facility. Each hand crafted ring looks as spectacular in person as they do in their ads.

b. Service: Since we started doing biz with them their staff is truly a pleasure to do business with. I can't stand companies who do make quality products but are real pills to do business with. If I am spending my capital with a company i want to be treated with kindness and respect. A quality that is sadly lacking in a lot of companies. Not Tacori. You guys don't see this becuase you're on the retail end but as a distributor service means as much to me as it does to you. I do not hand my hard earned capital to someone who doesn't have my respect.

c. Flexibility: Gosh, where do i begin? Firstly, Tacori will give you back 75% of your purchase price if you ever want to trade up your setting. This is incredible. Secondly ... even if you don't trade up your setting ... if you do trade up your diamond TACORI WILL ALTER THE PRONGS OF YOUR CURRENT SETTING TO ACCOMODATE THE NEW DIAMOND. I can't recall if this is for free or for a small service fee but it's a great service. Thirdly, if you enjoy one aspect of one Tacori setting (say the shank) and want to combine it with the head/prongs of another ... no prob. They will accommodate.

All of this with workmanship that is 2nd to none and why my own wife wears one. For a company that puts as much into advertising like they do, they are a very reasonably priced product for a hand made setting.

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for that vote of confidence! Especially that someone like you ( with ALL your valuable experience with different companies and designers!) has your wife owning one. Sweet! :appl: And I didn't know about the flexibility they allow the customer too.

I truly appreciate your response and taking the time to help. I'm excited to have one on my finger in the near future!

I just want to resurrect this old thread (sidenote: hi CaprineSun!!!) after reading through some of the old threads as well about the poor workmanship and issues people had with tacori rings a few years back...it sounds like they have their act together now, and if they have Jon's approval, that definitely makes me feel better as well!! Jon, we should be talking to you in a year or so

Re: Updates on Tacori & Quality? Please.

One of my best friends got the 2620. She's had it for less than a month and the shank has turned oval shaped and one of the prongs has bent into the halo. I'm upset because I have a Tacori ring that was made 3 or so years ago and quality has never been an issue. It's been the sturdiest ring ever. My friend is super gentle with her ring and it's changed shaped and broken a prong! I don't know if it's just her ring or there's something going on at Tacori. Hopefully not cuz I have faith in them...

Tacori is a reputable designer. Like I said, I've had mine for three years and its been sturdy as a rock. I'm sure there are some discrepancies because they can't be absolutely perfect.

I've had my Tacori 2620 for about 3 years and have not had any issues. I've banged it and snagged it a few times then did a ring check and it's still as perfect as the day I got it.
