Dear All,

I've never asked before but pretty please send dust/pray/cross fingers for my gorgeous dog.

On Friday night I came home from work and clearly something was wrong - drunken legs, unwilling to walk etc. Classic signs of a back injury. I raced to the emergency vet and she agreed - proably a spinal disc injury. I've no idea how it happened as there is nothing in my yard they can climb on or jump off. She was given anti-inflamatory & painkiller pills and I crated her overnight to keep her immobile. Saturday was spend back at the local vet with and xray followed by a visit to the city to see a specialist. During the day she got worse, now unable to stand or walk at all. There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing your dog like this. ;(

We were given the option of surgery but it was a risky, expensive procedure with many months of rehabilitation ahead and no guarentee she would ever be the same again. Other option, which we have chosen to try is to crate her and a give her a cocktail of strong anti-inflamatory, painkiller and sedative drugs for a week to see if there is any natural improvement. Apparently she as a 60% chance of recovery... If she shows no improvement within 7 days, she will never recover at all. :blackeye:

This dog is everything to me - like a child. I adore her so much and she deserves so much more life. I work full time and have no friends or family nearby. I am alone (husband military - away) and struggling to deal with this physically and emotionally. I know we will need to make a hard decision at the end of the week and no matter what - her quality of life and welfare always come above our emotional attachment. So please I am begging for luck, a miracle in any form as I cannot imagine life without her...

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about your dog:(
A friend of mine had a similar situation with one of her french bulldogs. She opted not to do the surgery and crated him with meds. Crating him was tough - he barked a lot and was miserable, but they managed to get through it. He recovered and is doing fine, but she has to be careful with him because it's something that can happen again if he's too active.
Thinking of you and hoping that your dog can recover and be well again….

Sending you lots of dust! We went through this with our cocker spaniel five years ago and I know how difficult and emotional it is. She did end up having surgery and it was very successful. Please take care and know you are doing all you can for your precious little dog!

Sending your sweet puppy positive energy, healing and lots of dust for recovery. Seeing your fur child like this is one of the most heart rending experiences. (With some long back dogs like mine who are prone to IVDD even hydrotherapy or acupuncture can help) I'm so sorry you are going through such a difficult situation by yourself. Everyone on this thread is sending you dust and thinking of you & your darling dog. I had to post to send you good wishes when I saw that sweet face in the photo you shared. I really hope the crating & medication get her on the way to a quick recovery.

Much dust HotPozzum! One of my weens has had this happen to him a couple of times and each time after a couple of days he would be fine. For the life of me, I can't keep him from jumping off of things. Have you seen the back braces they make for doxies? They are from a company called L'il Back Bracer. It might be a good idea for your baby. Much much dust!

Stress doses of Wobenzym, this kind of injury is exactly what this is for. Go to Whole Dog Journal, use their search function input Wobenzym, and get started.

Praying hard for your sweet dog and for you too.

You can buy Wobenzym at Amazon, Whole Foods, health food stores, etc. Make sure its from Garden of Life, which brings it in from Germany.

Thanks everyone, your support means so much to me. No progress so far although I swear I saw a tail wag yesterday?! She is semi-sedated so as to not fret or try to move too much in the crate, although she spends most of the day asleep on my lap as she is now. At least she is peaceful, without pain and is enjoying my love and attention.
