I am looking for an antique engagement ring and am having a bit of trouble narrowing down vendors and sources. Here is what I am looking for in the ring ...

Metal - white gold
CS weight - 0.25-0.6 ct
CS cut - round or emerald
Style/period - edwardian, art deco, or similar
price - in the ballpark of 2000

I have been looking at the rubylane and Leigh Nacht sites with little luck so far and was wondering if anybody had some suggestions for me?

Another question I have is whether or not it is feasible to have a local jeweler replace the CS in the vintage ring if i were to find a good setting with an off CS or a non-diamond CS? is this a common thing to do or are most vintage rings just take it as it comes?

Thanks in advance for the help

I think this is quite doable. Are you willing to look for a stone and setting separately? What type of colored stone are you looking at? (did you give up on diamonds btw)

I am willing to look for a stone and ring separately, and I want to end up with a diamond CS in the ring. I just didnt know if it would be a good option to look for a ring with a non-diamond CS and then replace it with a diamond.

I love hunting for things, but you need to be more specific, you are after an antique setting with a yellow diamond? A cognac or champage coloured diamond? Pink and blue diamonds in your budget will be treated and enhanced are you O.K with that?

What types of colours in coloured stones do you like? Reds, blues, greens, yellows?

Are you open to different shaped diamonds and different styles of rings?

Here is a blue one but it will be a treated and enhanced diamond in a new antique style setting;

Alternatively how about a genuine vintage 3 stone with one diamond and a coloured stone or two diamonds and one coloured stone?

I am looking for

Metal - white gold or platinum
CS weight - 0.25-0.6 ct
CS cut - round or emerald
CS color - colorless
Style/period - edwardian, art deco, or similar

Here are a few that I have found that I like so far

http://www.langantiques.com/products/item/10-1-5880

... a little pricey but if i could get it with just the setting and find a different stone I think I could bring it back down into my price range

and

http://antiqueengagementrings.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=4787

... both of the rings from Leigh Nacht say that they are sold but I am going to contact them and see if I could get a replacement. has anyone ever worked with him? I found a link to the page off of a PS thread that I cant seem to locate now :confused:

Ask them if they can make a replica of any of the rings you have chosen, about half the time they can, depends if they were able to get a mould of the original.

Have you looked at some of the places that make cheaper repos in this style? Check out Etsy and also here;

Alright so I have decided to go with this setting

http://antiqueengagementrings.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=4883

I spoke to Leigh Nacht and he said that they can create the replica for me in the size that I need and I asked him to price some different stone options for me and this is what he came up with.

PLEASE HELP! I am leaning towards the 1st stone (the .61 carat one) but am a little concerned about the inclusions.

You probably need to put a copy of the certificates and what you are looking for on the main forum, depends if you just want any diamond on a budget and don't care about the cut quality of it. They are all very ordinary cuts, the first two look like really badly cut round brilliants and the Old Euro has no distinct facet pattern and bad proportions as well, all of them have huge tables which makes them face up larger and they have less depth to them this can make them have less fire.... The cut gives diamonds fire and sparkle.

How much is the setting? I am not sure if the others can find you a top cut stone for the rest of your budget, but I know they will at least try to if you put what you are looking for and your max budget on Rocky talk.

Check out page one of JBEGs Antique and Vintage rings, something like the .50 OEC in a Bezel, the .63 Early round Brilliant ring, or the Lisa ring will all be better cut and probably better value. You could also email Grace or Erica and ask them if they have any new stones or Antique rings in your budget coming in;

I am not sure how much this will sell for but these are much better looking stones;

Or keep an eye on what these guys have they sometimes have rings in the style you are looking for as well;
