Hi folks! So my dad just got my mom this yellow garnet ring. 20210915_203515.jpg 20210915_203325.jpg It's set in sterling silver with 22 kt YG bezel. I had never seen a yellow garnet before. It has good sparkle and color and the engraving is gorgeous. What do you all think? It looks like a citrine but they said it was sold to them as a garnet. Designer Jason McLeod. 20210915_203530.jpg 20210915_203521.jpg

Mali garnet has a very high dispersion, higher than diamonds, and it glows like yellow diamonds in the dark.
This is mine. Mali garnet is more yellowish green.

Is your garnet the center? This is a gorgeous ring! I love sparkly garnets! Do you think garnets are the most sparkly gem besides diamonds?

Thank you! That is my recent favorite piece.
The center stone is a Cooper Bearing Tourmaline and the halos are mali garnets.
Only two kinds of garnets have higher dispersion than diamonds. (Some) Mali Garnet and Demantoid Garnets. The dispersion for Mali Garnet and Demantoid Garnet is from 0.028 to 0.057. Diamond is 0.044.
Not all yellow garnets can be categorized as Mali Garnet.
Sphene has a higher dispersion rate than diamond too. Moissanite even has a higher dispersion of 0.1.

I've seen hessonite garnet it a warm golden color before. I think the band on your mom's ring is really cool. It's a really pretty ring.

You might try emailing your pics to Jason McLeod and asking him. Maybe he remembers it or has a record of it that he'd be willing to share.

Are you sure it’s not a demantoid instead? Both are andradite garnets.

Demantoid is andradite. The highest garnet dispersion.

Mali garnets are grandite (grossular/andradite mix). They tend to have green tones, even in the yellows. Gary Braun has been cutting through a great parcel lately and has had some beautiful Mali garnets on his site recently.

In my experience Mali garnets are not as dispersive as either demantoid or diamonds but they can be very bright and sparkly.

The green stone in the center of the ring looks like a tsavorite if it’s a garnet.

The “yellowest” garnet I’ve seen was a grossular.

I’ve been looking for a pale greenish yellow Mali for years, many are brownish yellow, or a golden color, which I’m not too keen on.

Very hard to photograph but a beautiful brilliant sparkling Mali. Yellowish in some lighting and highlighter lime in other lighting. IF and practically glows in the dark.

This is sooo pretty!!! I want to get a bigger piece too!

I saw a potentially nice one here http://www.zavamastercuts.com/garnet-1/garnet-mali-2
they have a lot more inventory than shown on that site, based on their IG. They are an AGTA member. Maybe worth reaching out, but won't be cheap.

It is a huge ring on my size 4.5 finger. The green color is very difficult to take pictures of. F8BD8CB0-0AF4-478D-B9E7-96ACFAB6F58C.jpeg

Oooh, I didn't read the rest of the thread (being a magpie drawon to pictures) - so the halo isn't diamond? That's unusual in a good way. The yellow tint of the halo and the green of the centre stone is a nice combination!
