My husband and I will be visiting Chicago next month, and we''re going to see Wicked.

I have never been to a play/musical before, so I need a little help figuring out what to wear. Please help! I haven''t decided whether we''re going to the afternoon or the evening show, yet. Would there be a difference in dress?

If you could suggest something for a gentleman, too, I''d greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance, PS!

these days people wear pretty much anything. nice pants and a top for you is very appropriate. hubby can wear kkakis and a polo. no one really dresses up anymore for the theater.

You will love it, I saw it twice!

Ditto. I wore nice pants and a sweater, was in NYC. Hubby nice slacks and dress shirt. You will see people in jeans and T shirts, so the dressing up thing has gone by the way side. OMG, YOU are in for a treat. It''s my FAVE broadway show right now. I want to go see it again. ENJOY!!!

Ditto what they said. People will show up in jeans, tanks, and walking shoes, while others are dressed up, but not super formal. DH, who lives in jeans, always wears nice pants and a button up to the theatre, because it makes me happy, but there''s no need for a tie, etc.

It''s an amazing play, I hope you enjoy yourselves.

Thanks, everyone. I knew I could count on y''all!

I think it''s a shame that people don''t dress up anymore. I was kind of looking for an excuse!

Last time i went to a play(Phantom of the opera at girl friends request) I wore a dark orange silk dress shirt with black buttons and black dress pants and shoes. She wore a light orange summer dress with strand of green jade beads and dangle earrings. We went with her family and went out to dinner before the show and then walked to the theater. It always nice to dress up now and again to make the occation a little more special. You can wear jeans any time.

I think you can. A nice summer dress, with some accessories, and your man in nice slacks with a dress shirt is very appropriate. There is not any good reason why you should not look nice even if no one else does.

When it was playing in LA, people wore everything...plenty of young ladies in prom-like dresses.

I think the gentleman should dress in a manner befitting the attire of the woman he is escorting (whew, long sentence.)

Ooooh, you are in for a treat! I saw Wicked in Chicago and its am amazing production. I really loved it. I wore jeans and a nice top and I looked neat compared to many. Wear what makes you most comfortable. I went to the 2pm show so I can''t speak to the evening show.

The theater itself is beautiful. Old, and really elaborate. Enjoy the show!

Oh, you are going to LOVE that show. I saw it here in San Diego where the tickets sold out in 4 minutes. Unbelieveble. I am a firm believer in dressing up whenever you get a reason to do so. I wore a really cute dress that has been dubbed "my Marilyn Monroe" dress because it looks a lot like the one she wore in the famous picture over the ground vent...only mine is in black. I even got it a resale store called "Flashback" and it only cost me $15, but it looks like a paid a fortune. I always get a lot of compliments on it.

So, wear whatever makes you feel beautiful!! Be it pants, dress, or more casual garb. You are going to be mesmerized by the story ine. I can''t wait to hear what the you about the show.

If you want the excuse absolutely go for it! I''ve worn a dress to almost every play I''ve seen in the last year, if not nice pants and a blouse. I have a mental block against wearing jeans to a theatre, so I don''t. Do what makes you comfortable/happy!
