Why do I have such a hard time with antique earrings

It's so hard to put them on. Is there a trick that I don't know about? I'm worried about breaking them.

I'm not sure what's going on there, but the ear wire goes to the inside of the hinged part, not outside of it.
Maybe that's why you're having trouble.

I find that a dab of something greasy can help - I grab for the neosporin ointment because I can squeeze out just a tiny drop. The trick of course is not to get any on the stones.
