What does everyone think about this setting for a rhr?

I recently received a ring from my mom that she inherited from her amount. I am not quite sure what the stone is however it is a beautiful velvety purplish blue and I am thinking about having it reset. I am having it apprasied in the next two weeks to see what it is. I love these two Stuller settings. What are you ideals? Thanks Here is the ring with the stone I want to have reset.

#1... wishing it isn't a cute swirly band with a 'tiffany' head pegged on top though. How does it look from the side? It would be nice to have some meaningful connection between the band and the stone.

In fact, the same goes for the second - I like dome-shaped rings, but this one looks a tad strange with the main stone attached to an apparently unrelated ring. If it was a half bezel setting with the strypes of pave diamonds I would have really loved it allot!
