I was having a little fun with the black light tonight and I by chance put DH''s grandma''s ring in the light and low and behold, fluor! I thought this baby was glass, amethyst at best, does glass show fluor?

It probably is fake, found this:

Synthetic purple or violet sapphire resembling amethyst in color glows bluish-white in short wavelength u.v. light and red in long wavelength u.v..

I''m looking at the packaging but do not see if my black light is long wave or not but this would make sense. I just answered my own silly question.

Synthetic spinel fluoresces red in UV light. Not that I''m passing judgement on your stone. I have no idea what it might be. I was left a honking great stone that was purported to be an aquamarine. Turned out to be synthetic spinel and it looked like yours under a UV light.
