Hello everyone,
I am new to vintage jewelry and I am wondering what color and clarity is considered worth buying when it comes to vintage jewelry. I know that vintage pieces with old diamond do not come with the best clarity and color.
However do you have a standard for shopping for vintage pieces?
For smaller diamond sizes(like 0.1ct per piece), is color I and clarity SI to VS good enough? Should I pass diamond with clarity I ?

It depends on the diamond. Most old cuts that are genuine antiques are lower colours because it wasn’t worth the $$ to recut them.
The clarity isn’t so cut and dried - mine is an SI3 (EGL) but is absolutely clean throughout the body and only got that grading because it’s got a couple of chips which are hidden under prongs.
Most of the time, you need to see a range of colours to work out your tolerance and what your eyes like. They face up quite differently to modern cuts. And you may also find you see a piece of antique jewellery and it’s the whole piece you fall in love with rather than just the diamond grading if that makes sense.
