Hello,

Looking for an engagement ring within this range - Im sorry if this is a very generic question but just wondering what people like me may expect to find at stores for this and also how much insurance would be ??? Thanks - this site is awesome! I think she wants white gold or platinum and either emerald/princess! Also, can someone explain which is better VS1 or VS2, I cant remember and whaat does it refer to? The clairity?

It goes
FL IF VVS1 VVS2 VS1 VS2 SI1 SI2 I1 I2 I3

I haven''t learned about much other than round diamonds, simply because thats all I needed to learn. You can definitely get something nice for that price around $5000 though..

I too don''t know much about princess cuts (I was shoppinng for a Round), but you have roughly the same budget I did. Platinum vs. White gold will make a big difference on what you can spend on the diamond, so I''d figure out which you are going to buy and then you''ll know how much you have left for the diamond (Platinum rings will be anywhere from $500-$1500 on average i''d guess...white gold $200-$500 maybe?). If ''size'' is important for your diamond, then look for something with an excellent cut (I don''t think they can classify Princess cuts as ''ideal''...someone correct me if I''m wrong), with a little lower color and clarity. Not sure if Princess cuts show more color than rounds, but you could look in the G-I range, with a clarity in the VS2-SI1 range maybe (provided it is ''eye-clean''). I''d be willing to bet you could find a diamond such as this for $4,000-$4,5000, and maybe less?!

Just some thougts...again, not much experience with Princess cuts so I could be way off...

Somehow, you look familiar...

Lot of options. This one looks very sharp...

Check out this tool, and see what you come up with!
