use old platinum ring to make new ring?

Hello! I was wondering, is it possible to use the platinum from a couple of old rings that I don''t wear anymore to make a new ring? I was thinking with the price of platinum being so high (and the fact that I can''t find a band that is exactly what I want anyway), this may be a good route to go...if it''s possible! Any experts out there? Thank you so much for reading!

I''ve heard that you can use 1/2 old platinum in a ring, but not the whole thing. Not sure where that came from though.

From what I have read on here, you generally cannot reuse the platinum.
