I am relatively new to this forum and have benefited greatly reading the posts here.

I am down to three stones and is undecided. Hope members can help by giving your comments.

Diamond 1
Round 0.58ct D VVS2
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2345/

Diamond 2
Round 0.82ct D VVS2
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3033/

Diamond 3
Round 0.82ct D VS1
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3758/

I like Diamond 2 but I was bothered by the medium florescence. Considering the amount that I would pay, I would like it to have neg florescences.

Diamond 1 is smaller but the price is significantly cheaper and I would spent the savings on a better setting.

Would appreciate comments.

Thanks.

Along with Garry I love fluorescence although he is the best person to advise you! All your chosen diamonds look great, it depends on whether you want the larger MB second one, or would prefer smaller and cheaper. I take it having very high colour and clarity matter to you? You may know that you could drop both and still have a very white and clean diamond, but it depends on preference and a well cut D VVS will be fabulous! I know which one I would pick, but I adore fluorescence!!

Hi kshua,

Obviously we're not comparing all apples here, as one is smaller. Of the two larger, I prefer the third one. I wouldn't mind the fluorescence on the second, but I don't care for the angle combo, it's a little deeper than I'd like, and I don't care for how the diamond looks because of that.

If you'll lower things just a bit, this is another nice option. It will get you a bigger stone, and a better price, so you can still get the nicer setting as well. This should still be totally eyeclean, which the vendor can verify.

It is good to see also how taste comes into it, I would be all over that second diamond as I love how it looks, especially on the AGS Report! Different strokes and all that!

Thanks Gary, Lorelei and Ellen for your comments.

I will ponder on your recommendations. Please pardon my slow response, it is not that I don''t appreciate your comments. Just that I must find time away from my gf. She must be kept in the dark about this.

I will ponder on the recommendation to lower things a bit.

Cheers and keep your comments coming in

The one common peice of advice you will get here, keep the size larger & lower the clarity, then work on the colour. If you read anything here, it''s to get the best value you can. Seems like you might have a larger budget if you''re considering D stones with higher clarity. As women, for the money you would pay for a .58 or a .80ish D-vvs stone, you can bump that towards a 1 ct lower colour/lower clarity and still have an excellent cut stone. LOL When you can get away, would be good for you to put up some color, clarity, size ranges you would like to stick to.

Ok, since you asked.

Here's my final thought/comment. Ideally, you want to get her the biggest/nicest diamond you can, for the best price, and be comfortable with it. So, I would suggest the following diamond. At G, you are at the top of the near colorless range. You will NOT see any color, unless, she is highly, highly color sensitive. (is she?) Again, a VS2 clarity, which can be confirmed eyeclean by the vendor. (who btw, is a great one I've worked with also, besides GOG). Now, the jump in diameter (visual size) is definitely noticable on this, compared to the other one I linked you. And with a 2% PS discount, you're looking at about 3600.00. Still room for a great setting!

This one would be my pick.

wow... thanks for the great advice on lowering the clarity, increase the size and work on the colour. This is an excellent advice.

She is highly sensitive to color. She work with art materials. I suppose I can lower the color to E.

I am seriously considering what Ellen has originally recommended.
http://204.17.89.15/diamond/2809/ and get a great setting.

I am giving myself this weekend to think through. Would appreciate any final comments?

Cheers

Now, I know this is an SI1, which is a far cry from where you started, but looks very clean to me...

If you''d rather stick with the higher color and clarity, I like #3

It seems that 3 has quite a bit of votes.

What about 1 (http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2345/), considering that if I am going to down the colour to E (http://204.17.89.15/diamond/2809/) and the price range will be about 500 bucks difference from 1.

Of course, they are like apples and oranges. I would like to hear some views.

Thanks.

If you want a nice amount to go towards the setting, I''d go with the #2809.

If you want to go with the biggest, that would be #3758.

They will both be lovely. At this point, it''s a matter of whether you want a bigger stone, or a more expensive setting.

If I were you, I''d call GOG today, and put the one (or two) you''re leaning towards on hold until Tuesday when they''ll be open again, so you can decide without worrying that one of them might sell. It does happen.

And let us know what you pick!
