I have a Tiffany and Co engagment ring that is .42 carats in the "Tiffany" setting I was wondering if I could get a new larger stone reset into this setting? For me to sell this ring which has sentimental value would clearly be a loss in money and I was wondering if the head could be modified to accommodate a larger stone or if a new head could be put on that is similar to the original

I was looking at other people's posts and seen this ring

https://www.artofplatinum.com/vault/tulip-solitaire-enagement-ring

Could I just buy the head that would accommodate a 1ct stone and get that head attached to my original band?

Would a jeweler do this or would they be telling me this is unethical because its Tiffany and Co. I am not thinking of this to misrepresent I just think this would be a good way to up cycle the ring

If this is all possible how much would the modification cost?

Thanks soo much I just didn't want to sound like an idiot talking to a jeweler I was hoping you guys could school me on this so I am informed on everything

You'll destroy the value of the ring if you do that. The best thing would be to trade it in at Tiffany for a new ring. You have to spend double the cost of the one you have. No one is going to do that job of replacing the head well. It won't be worth altering the one you have. Just leave it as it is and sell it and start over, or trade it in for a larger one.

(These questions actually go in Rocky Talky, for future reference. That is why you haven't gotten responses until now!)

Do they give the full value back or only partial on a trade?

+1

Your questions are better answered by a jeweler. You can see what Tiffany's will do for you, or you can consign it at a place like jbEG:

I would not alter a Tiffany piece unless it has high sentimental value to you. It's like taking a genuine Hermes bag and altering it, which would ruin its value. Keeping it intact as genuine Tiffany means you will get a much higher resell price. In general, when the head of a ring is replaced, it is replaced with a similar size. You can see an example here for my ring from a reputable vendor who has experience replacing heads.

Putting in a larger head will mean reconstructing the entire ring. I would not do that in general with a Tiffany piece. I would only do this if a piece had very high sentimental value and I could not part with it. Even then, I would do it understanding that it might not come out exactly as I anticipated. Most jewelers will not even agree to do work like this. In my case WhiteFlash would not even replace the head on a ring _they_ made, and I had to go to Quest.
