Is there a technical term for the arch of a plain wedding band? For example, some bands look like they were cut from a piece of metal pipe (flat / no arch on the exterior). Others have high rounded arch''s. Is there a technical term that I could use to describe or search for the type of arch I am looking for?

Thank you.

One with a curved outer surface, thcker in the center to thin at the edges is called 1/2 round. One with thick edgers and thinner at the center is called concave. Ones with curving edges inside where the finger is are called comfort fit. Ones that look like a pite section are called flat.

Hope that helps.

The amount of curve is described by the radius of the arc that makes up the profile. A shorter radius arc will have more curvature than a longer radius. A very long radius will make the rounded profile almost flat. For my rings, I have customers specify a regular curvature, more round, less round, or less less round, which is almost flat. The radius of curvature depends on the ring width, so a small 3mm wide ring will naturally have more curvature than a 9mm wide ring. The designations of more round or less round are relative to the "regular curvature." Doing a real semicircular dome in a wide ring like 9mm would make the ring so thick that it would be very uncomfortable, so my regular curvature is derived from the ring being a certain comfortable thickness at the center.
