Settings for fancys with points

Hey now are those triangle prongs really needed for protection on the points of fancies? I have only seen settings online for fancies and it appears there are other options but it could be that the photos where all made for rounds hence the prongs may be different.

the points would need to be protected somehow, but i don''t believe you *have* to have the v-prongs.
don''t go skimping on protecting the points of that marquise kimberly!

Not trying to be cheap just confused as I see many other types of end prongs.
