Setting that does not cover girdle - is it safe

I fell in love with a Vera Wang setting but the setting covers the pavillion and below (and it has four prongs). Should I be wary of a setting that does not cover the girdle?


It sits in/on a micropave bezel (pavillion and above shows) and is secured by four prongs. Should I be concerned about damage and what''s the best way to protect the diamond?

I am afraid there are no pictures on the web of this particular ring. Damn Vera Wang!!!

The gemologist who is doing the setting said not to worry. I trust him b/c the alternative setting I was considering is more expensive and covers the girde. He easily could have tried to upsell me but didn't.

Thank you. When I get the ring, I will post pictures. Ihave 90 days to change the setting. Thank you for being willing to look at the photo for me.
