He's already resigned to a couch he was NOT planning on buying (but was ill this weekend and he thought it would make me smile), I told him we were getting a new coffee table after I'd already ordered... and he's ASKED me to hold off on the rug until I"m positive of the design/direction I'm going in...

So yes. I could just buy one and send him the link in an email with the subject line "Our New Rug".... but I'd rather not. He's already been VERY awesome. And I don't like to take (too much) advantage.

Especially considering in the last two months agreed to:

Re-do our bedroom (drapes, rods, new bedding including new pillows matress pad and new down comforter, duvet throw pillows and accessories)
Get a new cat and the Cat Shinks the resulted, plus two huge cat condos
My Aurora Band
AND a Euro diamond to make into a pendant
AND a 1.8mm rolled wheat 20 inch chain
A bunch of new work clothes including two suits (wool and pricey)
A couch
A new coffee table

So... I'm been completely and totally freaking spoiled beyond belief. So... I'd rather not get a rug he hates, so I just have to find a contemporary rug he likes (it happens occassionally).

Some more links... I'm probably still too contemporary but I'll throw it out there.

Not sure if the brown goes with the whole idea but I can't help myself around large floral prints.

Lizzy you've really inspired me with those pics you posted. I've been thinking of getting decals for my walls for a while. But you really crystalized it for me.

I have a wall with only my TV and entertainment on it. I think I'm going to order this decal for it. http://www.etsy.com/listing/61610209/4-birch-tree-set-with-birds-and-letters

Love them all. Especially the third one.

Wrong Decal. And possibly wrong wall. But I'm ordering it as soon as I know what colors I want!

http://www.etsy.com/listing/61545823/3-birch-tree-set-with-birds-and-letters correct decal (minus the words, I won't be putting those up).

Do you have smooth walls? I didn't see one smooth wall when I was looking at apartments! I'm so jealous. I didn't even see them at the property managed by the same place where you live, but different town. I love that choice. I think that could really drive the rug choice in a direction and help you narrow it down.

You are SO in my brain! I've considered ALL of those. Seriously considered them. LMAO. My favorites are the Giraffe (DH isn't a fan of the animal print, but I might be able to slide this one by him).

And the Ombre rug from JC penny (which I've considered in every color for every room in my house).

Um. No. The freaking walls are textured. That's a problem right  .

Damn.

I was thinking of the Cosa Bella rug with that decal. http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod65520067&ci_sku=H4UFR&ci_gpa=pla This rug with the decal. DH likes this one. So... decal. Textured walls. Hmm.

You don't think that I could bribe you and Neatfreak to help me get the decals to stick to textured walls? I promise good food and a girl night with senseless chick flicks.

I'm not really a fan of animal print either, but giraffe is much more user friendly. I bet he wouldn't think of it that way unless he read the name of the rug in the link. Perhaps just hijack the photo and send it to him so he can't judge it by the name?

I am officially tapped out of places to look for rugs. I had to google "area rugs" to be reminded of JC Penney and Macy's! The Internet... both a blessing and a curse.

No worries! I've looked at over 15 thousand rugs in the last two days. That's not an exaggeration. I did over 8K of them tonight.

So... I'm buying something in this thread. LOL. That's it, I'm researched out. If none of these works then it's hopeless.

Thanks so much for all your help EVERYONE. I really appreciate it.

If you like any of the 100 rugs posted, let me know. :wavey:

That rug is totally fabulous. Nice that you two have agreed on something!

No bribery needed. I'm on a roll with home decor projects and would totally love to experiment with this. Plus I want to see your stylish new bedroom and oh yeah.. the Aurora band.

Maybe you can have the seller send you a strip of the stuff she uses to test it out? They sell those things at Target out here and since I've yet to lay eyes on a smooth wall in the Bay Area I'm guessing there are SOME that work.

Such is the life of a woman on a home decor mission. I feel like I know every dining table within my imaginary budget. I say imaginary because DH still hasn't gotten totally on board with a new table. Too bad all of these decisions can't be made like the arrival of our couch. Receive email about great sale. Go see couch. Buy it. DONE! In the span of 5 hours.

Looking forward to seeing your final choice.

I'm pretty sure neatfreak has smooth walls but they are hard to find. I asked the seller to send me color samples already, so I'll add a small sample to see if it works on the walls.

My stylish new bedroom is currently a rabbit warren. I've been on bed rest all week so my nightstand and my side of the bed are just nightmares. And we still (we being John) still haven't put up one of the curtain assemblies. But maybe next weekend if you guys don't have anything. I can get the house clean (ish) and get the room totally complete and have everyone over for dinner.

I also need two new dining chairs cause we only have chairs for 4. I loved the ones we saw at world market. Gonna have to present those to John as fait acompli I'm afraid. Here honey... surprise! I bought new dining chairs. BTW I returned all this other crap so... hug? ???

Hmm. What are you top dining table contenders. Did you guys ever hit the crate and barrel outlet in berkley? The last two times I've been there they've had gorgeous dining table options.

Sorry to hear that you're still feeling under the weather. I hope you mend soon. The bed rest does explain the ability to look at 1000s of rugs online in one night! Still impressed with your drive for the rug though.

You're right... NF DOES have smooth walls. Lucky woman. Our schedule is pretty open.

Drive for rug = boredom. Sheer boredom. There is only so much TV, reading, Bejeweled Blitz, and web surfing a woman can do.

:wavey: I'll ping you guys with plans to get together soon. I went to the OBGYN, she was really good. Gave me my list of options. Two of which are scary. So we have some decisions to make, but in the interim I start some pills on Sunday that should work better than the ones I am on right now.

Gypsy, I was just moseying back to say that I really like the fish scales and then I saw your last update :(sad

I hope you're feeling better soon. Lots of dust for a speedy recovery :wavey: Perhaps rugs have mysterious healing properties?

May Echina. If not the pills the doctor gave will hopefully have some effect.

Heya, can I impose on you to look through these (which are in my mind the top contenders) and give me your HONEST feedback on each of them?

1. http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod74160004&parentId=cat000018&masterId=cat6120733&index=0&cmCat=cat000000cat000046cat6120733cat000018

Love everything about it. It's Geometric, provides contrast has red and allows me to use some of the golden/orange glass vases and candellabra, as well as my orange throw pillows.

2. http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod65520067&ci_sku=H4UFR&ci_gpa=pla Same rug, showing both color options: http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod65520067&ci_sku=H4UFR&ci_gpa=pla

Love everything about it. Question is... which one to go for? The grey and white or hte ivory and beige? I would likely get this decal for my walls if I got this rug. I think it would be a lovely tie in. http://www.etsy.com/listing/61545823/3-birch-tree-set-with-birds-and-letters

3. http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/trans-ocean-chains/natural/139201812-203.html

Bold Pattern, contemporary. And I could have a lot of fun going electic on the rest of the decor. I'd pick the black one. I think this one would stand up to cat wear and tear well.

4. http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/momeni-el-29/ivory/126EL29IV-203.html

Love it. So contemporary and FUN. Gives the DHa headache though. So... not sure.

5. http://www.csnstores.com/Nourison-RI04-SLT-NO10771.html

Will provide both contrast and texture. The grey is there but it is much lighter than the charcoal sectional. And I think the table will work perfectly with it. It's a little more traditional than the others but it still suits.

6. http://www.csnstores.com/Eastern-Oriental-Rugs-OT28IV8X10-EOR1099.html

Completely BOLD. And so much fun! Most like animal print of all the choices. I think it's TOTALLY fun.

7. http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod71160017&parentId=cat000018&masterId=cat6120733&index=63&cmCat=cat000000cat000046cat6120733cat000018

Wild and fun, provides contrast and is totally contemporary.

So... as far as I'm concerned, these are the top 7 (please feel free to go through the previous links and let me know if you like anything else that I didn't include in this list.

Here are my thoughts:

1. While I really love red and orange, I hesitated on this one because there's so much cream in it as well. I was thinking of your cats and wondered if their fur will show up too easily. Maybe not.

2. Love this one (both colors).

3. Pretty. Not my favorite but I do like it.

4. Not a fan (too busy for me, but that's ME)

5. Very nice. I'm surprised you like it because it is more traditional.

6. Too busy (again, for me, and this isn't my room). I do really, really like the "giraffe" rug that C-tek linked though.

7. Not loving this one.

Of course! I warn you, however, that beige/taupe/naturals are not my favs. Give me deep jewel colours any day! Just putting it out there to start.

I like this one because it's bold and warm. Also liking the mix of harder and softer shapes. It's a little too beige for my taste, I really do like it and it's in my top three.

2. http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod65520067&ci_sku=H4UFR&ci_gpa=pla Same rug, showing both color options: http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod65520067&ci_sku=H4UFR&ci_gpa=pla

Like the grey and white, NOT AT ALL the ivory and beige. Not enough contrast. Possibly risky depending on the sectional tones.

3. http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/trans-ocean-chains/natural/139201812-203.html

Sorry, just can't like this one. Too staid.

Same again for this one- can't love it. I'm obviously not big on small, repeating geometric patterns! If John says no, I also say no

I actually like this one the more I look at it. It's very sophisticated, soft and interesting.

Completely BOLD. And so much fun! Most like animal print of all the choices. I think it's TOTALLY fun.

Very bold! I don't love it but it's definitely a statement piece and would look great in the right space. I'm just not big on the animal-y prints much.

7. http://www.horchow.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=cprod71160017&parentId=cat000018&masterId=cat6120733&index=63&cmCat=cat000000cat000046cat6120733cat000018

Okay, THIS is very much my style. I love the rounded shapes, I love the asymmetry but focus of it, and I love the contrast. I can also see the curves of your gorgeous coffee table over the top of it. Personally I'd be getting it in the aqua because I love colour, but the grey is far more sophisticated.

So... as far as I'm concerned, these are the top 7 (please feel free to go through the previous links and let me know if you like anything else that I didn't include in this list.

If I were buying for my place (which I must say does not have a single rug or scrap of carpet- benefit of living with hardwood floors in a warm climate but gives me no right to comment here at all!), I'd pick the big red flower from your second post in this thread, then No. 7 here, then No. 1. For you, I'd suggest No. 1 because you love it, it probably won't do John any permanent damage, it goes with loads of your accessories, you wouldn't have to "match" the greys, and it's a beautiful contrast.

Just my ten cents!

:wavey:

Such is the life of a woman on a home decor mission. I feel like I know every dining table within my imaginary budget. I say imaginary because DH still hasn't gotten totally on board with a new table. Too bad all of these decisions can't be made like the arrival of our couch. Receive email about great sale. Go see couch. Buy it. DONE! In the span of 5 hours.

Looking forward to seeing your final choice.

Hmm. What are you top dining table contenders. Did you guys ever hit the crate and barrel outlet in berkley? The last two times I've been there they've had gorgeous dining table options.

I hadn't thought of that... GREAT IDEA! Looks like I have something to do this weekend. Thanks!
