ring vs. pendant vs. bracelet for soft stone?

Okay, so we know that a soft stone (like the opal I have on the way!) is in a more protected position worn as a pendant than as a ring. But what I can't figure out is where a bracelet fits into that equation. I don't think a soft stone set in a bracelet would be more protected than it would be in a pendant. But would it be more protected than if it was set in a ring? It would be a snug-fitting bracelet. Thoughts?

I always assumed a bracelet would bang things around more than a ring. But this is just an untested assumption on my part.
