Ok...have an issue here. My wife and I purchased her a pear shaped opal mounted in a 14k yg setting at an antique and estate shop. Not more than 24 hrs go by and the opal is missing out of the ring. Not only is it missing (and there is no damage to the ring) but we find the setting was really for a heart shaped gemstone. Someone must have put the opal in.
I talked to the store...as it is three hours away from our house. They were very nice and asked to have the setting sent back for inspection. They said they will "repair the ring with a replacement stone". I''m not keen on that though, as we bought the ring primarily because we liked the opal in it (it was somewhat transparent and had more of a blue hue to it).
Should I (and do I have the grounds to) fight them and just ask for my money back. It was only $160 with tax. I don''t want to do anything site unseen given the type of purchase it was. Their receipt says store credit only, but I think this is a different case given they sold us a ring with a stone in it that shouldn''t have been there.
Any thoughts would be helpful!!!
