DH and I will be in Pittsburgh this weekend for a wedding and are looking for somewhere to go for dinner Friday night. We''ve never been to Pittsburgh, so I''d like to go somewhere that''s in an area where we could walk around and get drinks after dinner and get a feel for the city. Price isn''t really an issue, that said, I''m not looking for the fanciest French restaurant in town, more like a trendy restaurant or somewhere cool and undiscovered. We like all kinds of food, including Italian, tapas, Asian, American, etc. We may be joined by DH''s family, so no sushi or seafood probably. Thanks in advance!

Shadyside is also a great area if you want the atmosphere to be a bit more mellow (Southside and Strip District are very boisterous drinking/clubbing areas).

Girasole was my favorite restaurant when I lived in Pittsburgh: http://www.733copeland.com/

Another great one on the edge of Shadyside (Highland Ave) is Casbah: http://www.bigburrito.com/casbah/

As for bars, on the main streets of the neighborhood (Walnut and Ellsworth) you''ll find a bunch: Club Havana, Mardi Gras, Doc''s Place, Harris Grill, Soba, Elbow Room. All mellow places with friendly crowds. There''s also great shopping - stores like Gap, Banana, Benetton on Walnut, antique stores on Ellsworth.

There''s also a fabulous breakfast place called Pamela''s (rated #7 best pancakes in the US) which is in the neighborhoods of Shadyside, Oakland, and Squirrel Hill.

Here''s more info on the area: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadyside_(Pittsburgh)

Pittsburgh is BY FAR the funnest, most affordable, and friendliest city I''ve ever lived in. Have a great time!
