This is sad on so many levels
I've never heard of any one being in prison for so long

What a sad case, although to be honest he will just go from one type of prison to another if he is released. People who have dementia are locked into their section of a nursing home. They are not free to move about. Additionally people with dementia cope very poorly with change. In many ways it would be cruel to change his environment and routine. That story is all shades of grey with no right or wrong answer.
