Is there a particular setting that would help protect a princess cut diamond (from chipping) a little more than others? The size of the diamond will likely be around 1.75-2 carats. Thanks!

VG I believe the most important way to protect a princess is to keep the corners covered and this is typically done by setting the stone with V-prongs.

I wonder.

V'' tips are safer as far as wear goes, but chipping a princess cut through wear is very very rare and to achieve it you would need a well aimed knock and in that case it might not matter what style of setting you have.

Round tips are probably safer then V''tips, though if you want them extra fine as most people do, then you might have to check they don''t get loose a little more often.

Done properly it is safer to set with round tips, but if it is not done properly there is a big chance the edge will be chipped if the setter tries to force the tip in a hole that isn''t fitted properly. It is an avanced setting technique.

The last option is double prong which is the easiest and safest type of setting to have done. Again it depends on thicknesses but a pair of fine prongs will definately come loose the quickest and this style leaves the point exposed, (if that matters).

Hope this helps.
