Peggy!! And I'm sure they can raise the stone a bit. They did on mine!

Just my opinion from my personal experience....
Get her what she likes and wants!
If she likes and prefers channel set, go with that.
I have been married for 11.5 years and just reset my center stone into a chunky channel set with a matching band EVEN THOUGH it's not what's "in" or what most people on the boards like.
It's what I like.
There are so many posts (mostly at wedding bee) about girls who do not love their rings.
As long as what she prefers is within your budget I would get her something you know she's going to love.
Good luck!! :):)

How about BGD's Bead Set Cathedral? http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/e...nes/bead-set-cathedral-18k-white-gold-5484w18 At 2.4mm, the shank is less than 3mm, but it is a decent width that should look great on a size 7.5 - especially when you remember she'll also be pairing a wedding band with it in the future. For me, I like this Bead Set Cathedral better than the Peggy, only because to my eyes the Peggy trellis head just doesn't seem to go with the cathedral shoulders, and I don't care for how the shoulders taper in at the head.

Hey guys thanks for all your help!

I'm definitely going to get her one of these channel/bead sets :)

I had her sister sneakily question her about the different styles and she definitely prefers that. She also confirmed that the tiffany was too bulky for her.

My contenders right now are the Vatche U-104 and one of the Brian Gavin settings! I like the Peggy and the Bead set that was just posted, I prefer the prongs on the bead set but wish it was slightly more substantial like the Peggy at 2.4 vs 2.8mm.

Getting a lot closer though!

I am so glad you were able to narrow down a style! That is so helpful and gives you more confidence that you're buying something she'll love.

Of the three, I personally still prefer the Peggy. I like the bead set as well, but I like how the diamonds go down further on the Peggy and it's a thicker shank. I'm not crazy about the Vatche.

Do you know if she wants a flush fit wedding band? In the photo of the Peggy sitting with a band it looks like there's a small gap due to the head of the ring. Just something to think about. You could call BGD to clarify with them if you think it might be an issue.

Hm yeah I'm pretty sure she'll want them to sit flush. I wish I could get the band of the Peggy with the head of the BG Bead set!

I like the Peggy best as well. I'm with the previous poster that pointed out that there might be a gap between the ring and the band so you might want to check that out.

It might just be the picture but I'm not crazy about all the metal between the side stones on the vatche.

It's seeming really hard to find the perfect setting within the budget so I'm kind of tempted to just get one made. I know a good local jeweller who could cast one within budget and timeframe but the exception being that he doesn't do platinum. But my understanding is that 19k gold is a good solution for it to last longer. I didn't want the headache of trying to make something custom but this is turning out to be just as hard! I think I could probably do something like get the classic Tiffany design copied except with a 2.8-3mm band instead of 3.5-4 but who knows. More to chew on I guess.

If there was smilie for "daunted" or "overwhelmed" I would definitely post it now haha.

I wouldn't go custom for this. I think you'll end up spending more than you would for a quality stock piece. I would call BGD and talk to them about changing the head on the Peggy before you decide to do custom. If you DO go the custom route, I would get a quote from IDJ or ERD because I don't think this piece is very complicated and should be able to be done for much less than 3k. Just because that's your budget doesn't mean you have to spend all of it!

I'm so confused at this stage. I saw that this great Mark Morrell design is 2.4mm-ish

But that looks so thin and slender. I guess it's hard to tell scale in any of the pictures but that probably rules out the BG Bead set.

That ring is beautiful but super dainty and delicate. Definitely not what she is looking for, I don't think.

You're probably right about the budget. :| Gotta wait till after work but will phone BGD today and failing that, I'll try calling ERD.

I believe the channel Sunburst is closer to what you want: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/mark-morrell-channel-set-sunburst-e-ring-advice-suggestions.92184/

Ooolala!

I absolutely love Mark Morrell's designs, and this one seems to combine what she wants (wider band, channel set or similar on the shanks) with your desire to give her something "beautiful and unique with great craftsmanship." (I'm sorry I misinterpreted what you were after before. ). This option has my strong vote if you can swing it. Bear in mind though that Mark Morrell has a wait time - you might not be able to get a ring made by MM as quickly as you could get the other rings you were considering.
