picture of a diamond ring

Is it just me or it is impossible to take a picture of a diamond ring? The more i zoom the more the light flashes back and i am unable to focus with teh camera, can someone help?

Turn off your flash.

Use the macro setting (green flower icon, usually)...so you can focus on close-up objects

Take a bunch of pictues, and hold your hand steady! It takes some practice.
