After doing some research on the best charity to donate to, this was my choice: http://www.regionalfoodbank.org
Thank you, Momhappy!! :appl:

If you wish to donate, this group will get supplies right to those in need in the quickest way possible. No money lost through administrative hands.

Yes, I sometimes worry (especially with large, National charities) that money is being uses appropriately. The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma got 4 out of a possible 4 starts on charity navigator.com, so I feel better knowing that the funds are being utilized as needed.

Thank you for the link to the Regional Food Bank, will use it.

While I am so very happy our PSers are OK, my heart is heavy with the loss of so many in OK.

This has been such a terrible year for natural disasters.

Momhappy, I JUST came across this TED talk that made me completely change my opinion about charities. I used to poo-poo charities that did a lot of advertising and had a lot of overhead, thinking that they were wasting funds, etc., but this COMPLETELY blew my mind and I regret that I spoke out against them in the past. It's worth a listen if you have 20 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfAzi6D5FpM It's not relevant to this thread really but it really made me think.

I don't poo-poo large charities, nor do I speak out against them - I simply choose to support some charities on a more local level (like in the instance of the Oklahoma tornado devastation). I donate to certain large charities (like St Jude and the Children's Cancer Research). I typically rely on charity navigator in an effort to determine what percentage of my money will go towards my cause vs. the cost of advertising, administration, etc. Thanks for the link, I will listen when I have a moment :)
