I wanted a place where we could discuss all this without jacking up threads. So here we go.

First up (just in), his new Cheif of Staff, Rahm Emanuel. I've heard he will be good at reigning in/cutting off the very liberals with an agenda the president elect doesn't agree with. That's where that "bulldog" mentality may come in handy, among other things.

nah, it doesn''t work. I''m guessing it hasn''t been launched yet... anyway, it was the Wash Post article that gave the address!

I was watching the NC results pretty carefully on election night, and they just STAYED at 50/50! I was wondering what they were going to do?!?! They couldn''t just split the electoral votes 50/50 because NC has 15!

On a slightly related note, I just thought this was funny in an ironic kinda way: 78% of the voters in Maverick County, Texas voted for Obama! Ohhhhhh, LOL!!!

I continue to marvel at the landslide nature (2 to 1) of the generally recognized (and validated) vote, as against the very close (is it like 52 to 46%) measure of the popular vote.

Is the popular vote always so close?

yes, it is usually closer, note that the numbers for Gore/Bush are not correct, several million absentee ballets were not counted that later where that showed Bush won the popular vote in 2000.
1+ million were in CA alone mostly from service men and women who went ~80% Bush.

No, sometimes it's even closer, check out 2000 Bush/Gore, and Carter/Ford! Seems to be quite a range.

Ellen, what a great website that is! Going not too far back...we can see how many contenders faired much worse than McCain....and based on recent electoral votes...another reason Reagan is remembered so fondly.

Did anyone catch his first press conference? I thought he handled it quite well (as usual). Candy Crowley asked the best question, which was, after learning all he had during briefings, did it change what he''d said he''d do during the campaign. He skipped it, which doesn''t surprise me. And while I realize the public is quite curious, was it really the best time to ask what type of dog they''re getting??

I have to correct the question from Candy. It was, after learning all he has, did anything give him pause. That''s the part he skipped. But still no surprise.

Anyone catch 60 Mins tonight????

You can catch some of the clips from the interview with Barack & Michelle Obama. http://www.cbsnews.com/sections/60minutes/main3415.shtml
Thanks skippers! We were gone last night so I missed it. Looks like it was a great interview, and he cracked me up when he told the reporter he was not going to compare/comment on the dog and his MIL coming to the WH at the same time! Too funny.

I also felt so sad for him when he said he wanted to take a walk, but can''t just do that anymore. It''s why I''ve always said I''d love to be rich but never famous. You lose your annonimity, and that really is a precious thing.

Hey Irish, good to see ya!

Thanks, Skippy!!! I was just talking to my FI during dinner tonight about missing this interview. They do seem like such lovely/real people. I love the rapport that Barack and Michelle share; they clearly have deep respect and affection for each other.
