What are your memories of that time?

I can't believe 9 years have passed. Though in some ways it feels like decades ago.

Destruction in our backyard and neighbors home
We were super lucky as the water didn't come into our house. It came right up to our backyard door but stopped. We were very lucky. Our backyard was destroyed but that is nothing compared to what could have been.

Destruction in our neighborhood. Some houses were pushed off their foundation. Our next door neighbor's home was blown off its foundation.

There were boats pushed from the marina onto the street. Laying in the middle of the road. It was surreal. I cannot find those pictures unfortunately. Powerful pics.

Right around the corner from us an entire house was destroyed.

Our neighborhood was evacuated and we returned two days later to find destruction everywhere.
The rebuilding took a while. Some houses here took years. It took us a few months to rebuild our backyard.
We replanted. We rebuilt our deck. We relaid our stone. We made our backyard even better than before. We were really lucky because we had just redone our bulkhead which mainly protected us. Without that the damage would have been more severe.

Others were not so lucky. :(

Does anyone have memories to share from those days?

A video.
Our neighbor took it because he did not evacuate.
We added the after Sandy destruction to the video when we were allowed back in the neighborhood.

And our backyard now. All fixed and good (better than) as new.

HI:

I recall your photos @missy and donating to The Red Cross. Quite difficult to look at the destruction.

cheers--Sharon

We lived in Massachusetts at the time so I absolutely remember Sandy. No direct hits for us but we got some of the weather from it, but we were inland, did not get the wrath of it. Some coastal areas took pretty nasty hit from flooding I recall.

My Mother's neighborhood is STILL under construction! So many houses are still not "done". It's absolutely terrible how long it has all taken.

We were on a cruise at the time, and I remember lots of people were really worried about their homes and how they were going to get home because of the disruption it caused. You were really lucky that the damage was outside your house and didn’t get inside @missy.
