Junie, glad you are chugging along. Estate work STINKS. You are a trooper. I've been thinking hard regarding part time job myself. I've been 'retired' for 2 years and my house is no cleaner than when I worked full time, although I did get the renovations done. I found that time outside the house was important, so I started going to the gym to use their equipment. I think a part time job would be ideal for me, it just needs to be one where there isn't much DRAMA. If you think of one, please tell me, okay????

CJ, I have no idea where you live but is there a VCA animal hospital any where near you? My experience with them has been wonderful. They have specialists for very medical condition a pet can have. I would also take him to the vet today. What you are describing has me worried as well. Is there anything I can do to help you? Hugs

Hi guys

The news isn't good :(( :blackeye:

The "new" vet seems to think he has FIP. ETA: which is fatal. :(sad

This is from looking at xrays (that she took complementary - more on that later) - and his symptoms - so it's an educated guess since there is no definitive test for FIP.

I'm heartbroken. I thought I was going to have to put him down right then and there - I told her that if that what was best for him I'd do it even though I was heartbroken that DH couldn't be there - but she said that no, he's fairly stable, he's still somewhat eating, that it didn't need to be done right there.

But she gives him a week at most. And I sure aren't going to wait until he can't grasp any air any more. :( So it will be quicker.

I can't believe this is actually happening. I'm in denial. He's in the bathroom and I want to go and just hug him but all I keep doing is opening the door and just look at him. He looks sickly not like he did this past week. I feel so bad for him. I don't want him to suffer in the least. He has already suffered so much.

The one thing I am considering doing is taking the xrays to my regular vet for her to take a look - have her give me her opinion what she thinks it is. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

She said we could also send out to a specialist, even though she's confident she knows what she's looking at. But I might end up doing that, just to cross off every t and dot every i. Not sure. (which by the way - makes me realize that for the first set of xrays at the other vet - my regular vet - when it was casually mentioned that "we'll have someone take a look at them to confirm what I'm seeing" probably meant a specialist. At no time did they say that it would cost extra - the Dr. just said it so casually. And in the bill the charge is just for xrays - so even though it seemed high to me - $225 for 2 of them - I thought maybe they're just expensive. I'm thinking now that part of that must have been to have a specialist look at them. So that will be something else we'll have to question. But that will be later. Not my priority right now.)

CJ, I am so sorry.
Is there a possibility the vet is wrong?
I know you will do what is best, and I commend you for not dragging this out if another day or two shows worsening symptoms.
It is part of what we do as good stewards for our animals, but it is never easy.

CJ, I am so so sorry.

Can you see your regular veterinarian to get another opinion? I know this vet said she is pretty sure but there seems like there is room for doubt and another opinion from your trusted veterinarian might be a good idea.

Did the vet who saw this cat first even mention FIP as a possibility?

I really hope this latest veterinarian is wrong but no matter what at least this cat had some love in his life because you and your dh cared. (((HUGS))).

Spoke to my sister

FIP hard to diagnose
usually in young cats

2 forms
wet form
dry form

wet form easier to diagnose
belly filled with yellow sticky fluid

dry form harder to diagnose and another opinion is merited.

can put cat on prednisone for extra quality time. A course of pred not painful but still a fatal disease.

Is the cat eating?

Some vets more likely to recommend euthanasia when stray cats are involved and this is probably not the case here but it can't hurt to get a second opinion.

Sorry for my jumbled post but I'm writing quickly because work is very busy. But had to call my sister for you and these are her thoughts.

I'm so sorry, CJ. I'm sure you'll do whatever seems like the right thing for your sweet kitty. It can be hard to know, but you'll figure it out.

If it turns out euthanasia seems like the right thing to do, consider having it done at home rather than the vet's office. It costs more, but I'm so glad I went that way for my sweet girl. She hated the vet's office, and her last moments were at home in her favorite bed. And the vet who came was so wonderful. It was totally worth doing, both for my dear pup and for me.

I'm so very sorry about this latest news CJ, might be worth it to check with your vet but whatever happens, please remember you gave this kitty care, comfort and love that he wouldn't have had otherwise. (((HUGS)))

Hi NIRDIs!

The balance on my Audi is now $0. Woo hoo! I feel better.

Scandi, I always do my least favorite task first just to get it done. I get about 4-5 comments a day at work about my car. I stopped at Arby’s tonight and saw someone pulling out of the drive-up pointing at and talking about my car. My company gives potential employees a pre-screen test then gives the hiring manager the results. I generally don’t take them real seriously but this came back with quite a few red flags. I am probably like you - mostly goody two-shoes will some streaks of rebellion in there.

Missy, I did watch the Peanuts special last night and enjoyed it thoroughly. I am glad you caught a few minutes of it. One of the kids networks has Peanuts on every morning so I try to listen to it at work. I have actually heard both coal mines and salt mines so either one works. My dad had quite a few amusing sayings. I think blue streak sounds like a good name for my car. I know Karl ran down the battery on my iPad last night. Those kids, huh? I have not taken all my bears for a ride but I can remedy that. I’ve taken 7 bears, 3 killer rabbits and 1 Snoopy for rides so far. I hate to hear J isn’t doing well. I know this is rough on you, her and her family. Sorry to hear your rash flared up by your eye. Big hugs to you.

Jimmianne, sorry to hear about your back. That is nice the kids are taking care of you. Rest up and feel better. Good idea to catch up on movies. Your trip will be underway before you know it. I am glad my car gives people something to talk about. I think it’s just the first one in town. Marty told me people were looking at the car when we were riding around one day but after I started looking I never saw anyone looking.

CJ, I am so sorry you kitty is so sick. My heart goes out to you and your kitty.

Kristie, that is spot on about explaining or excusing yourself to other people. I still feel compelled sometimes but not nearly as much as i did before. I think I’d work part time as well just to have something to do outside of the house.

Hi Callie and Rainwood!

Had a busy day at work. I ate supper at Arby’s then stopped at Simply Mac (our imitation Apple store) and picked up a cord for my old iPod. I can’t get my iPhone to work with my Apple Car Play. Marty gave me some suggestions to try but none of it work. I will see if my iPod works in the morning.

Marty has an extremely early flight in the morning from Atlanta to Omaha then he has an 8 hour drive home. He’ll be beat.

Take care.
Marcy

totally exhausted, but wanted to say thank you so much for reaching out to your sister - that was so nice of you, and of her. ((hugs))

and thank you all so much again...I'll answer any specific questions / comments if there were any better tomorrow.

Super quick update:

He wasn't eating or drinking, just wasn't looking right at all...
Then he started having to open his mouth to breathe...wasn't moving much...

Long story short...he's at the emergency vet overnight.

He started out in an oxygen tank, then they'll be neubilizing him.

They suspect pneumonia (coincides with original/first vet's diagnosis)
Said his lungs are really terrible
Vet is going to try some different antibiotics on him. Said that if in a day or two he doesn't improve then we might know then...
Believe it or not, I can't recall exactly what she said re: possibly being FIP. But she thought much more likely to be pneumonia.

The OTHER vet - the one not near my house - looked at the xrays and said his lungs look bad and have lesions but because of how quickly this happened he suspects fungal or bacterial issue. Thought it unlikely to be FIP.

Brain is fried. Just wanted to let you guys know what was going on.

Hugs to all of you.

CJ, I'm so so sorry! Thinking of you and the little kitty and just hoping for the best! If it is pneumonia, I guess the antibiotics should help in a day or two (?). Either way, you are doing everything you can, and it is unfortunately not possible to do anything more than that.

CJ, I am praying for your sweet kitty and hoping it is not FIP but a pneumonia that he can recover from and continuing to send healing vibes his way. We are all thinking of him and you and hoping for his recovery. Biggest (((HUGS))).

Good morning girls.

Marcy, so relieved and pleased for you that finally the Audi payment has gone through and I know it is a huge weight off your shoulders and mind. Yipee is right and yay for Marty arriving home soon. I know how much you have missed him. And it's Friday so double yay. LOL Karl and Francesca are quite the pair I must say. I am keeping a watchful eye on her from now on. Good deal for all the bears and bunnies and Snoopy too. They get to ride in Blue Streak whenever they want. I hope you and Marty can figure out how to get your iPhone to work with Apple Car Play.

Thank you for all your support and friendship Marcy and I enjoy our time chatting. And thank you for your big hugs. Big (((hugs))) to you too!

Scandi, how are you doing? Any weekend plans?

Hi Rainwood, Junie, Jimmianne, Callie, Kristie, and everyone else. Hope everyone has a good Friday. :wavey:

CJ we are all thinking of you and kitty and holding good thoughts for him. (((HUGS))).

Hey guys.

He got worse overnight, even with nebulizing, oxygen, and antibiotics.
I spoke with my current/regular vet (who I trust most), the hospital/emergency vet, and the original (out of the area vet)...

And after our conversations with them, we decided we had to let him go.

He went in our arms this morning, on a bench outside.

I miss him terribly and our hearts hurt.

Our only consolation is that he got to play, he got feel warm and fed, and that he felt loved. He had no other option but to feel loved because I loved him.

Thank you all for your warm and caring messages and hugs.

CJ, I am so sorry and yes you and your dh did absolutely everything you could to save this kitty and you gave him love and affection and he had his last weeks here knowing what it was to be loved and adored and cared for. I know your heart is broken sweetheart but know you made a real difference in his short life.

Now he is at Rainbow Bridge with all our beloved fur babies who have passed on and he is not in pain anymore. He is at peace. ((((HUGS)))).

Hi NIRDIs!

CJ, thinking of you and your DH.

Missy, I will continue to watch my Audi account and credit score to see if the late payment ever shows up. I think it will be okay since it was inside a 10 day grace period. I told Marty last night their response to make it right was underwhelming. Marty did figure out what was wrong with my phone and car play - I didn’t have the music downloaded on my phone. I stayed up late taking care of that last night so it should work fine now.

Marty got home yesterday about 6:15 and then we left for our astronomy meeting about 6:30. We had a documentary on supernova. The couple who provided the DVD brought microwave popcorn to make and a bag of Halloween Oreo cookies. She made the popcorn and I poured it in plastic cups and handed them out. It was kind of fun. We had a decent crowd for our meeting - about 18 people.

We went to Perkins afterwards so Marty could get something for supper.

Marty is playing golf today and I am working on laundry. I am getting a cold. Boo!

Have a great weekend.
