NEED YOUR HELP ON THIS EGL USA STONE...please :o)

I would like some feedback on this diamond that my bf and I have found thru Abazias...

Shape: Round Brilliant
Carat: 3.60
Color: G
Clarity: VS1
Cut: Excellent
Cert: EGL USA
measurements: 9.35-9.32x638 mm
Depth: 68.3%
Table: 55%
Crown: 17.5%
Pavillion: 44.6%
Girdle: thin to S.thick
Culte: none
Polish and symmetry: both good

The stone is priced at 18,700 and I just want to get everyone's feedback on the specs of the stone vs. the price. The sales person we are dealing with said it's a "Bluff Stone" and said that it the middle of the stone looks more like a VVS2 and the outer sides are more like VS1/VS2...

I've only heard great things through this site about Abazias so I'm trusting that the sales person knows what they are talking about!! Thanks in advance for your help all!

Couldn''t find a 3.6 stone in the price search, but smaller stones (3.06 eg) had the same kind of diameter....so this stone is deep, and would appear smaller than some other (ideal cut) diamonds of the same carat weight.....

wow the HCA won't even give a response... thats usually not good.

you get what you pay for. 18K for a 3carat stone screams that this diamond will be a big in size, but very poor in performance once out of the high powered jewlery store lighting. I would look elsewhere unless size is the only thing your looking for.

At the very best this is what the ideal-scope image would look like as near as I can get it and you can bet the diamond doesnt have this level of symetry.

okay guys calm down. don't laugh but... this 3.60 ct stone at $18,700 might be an excellent buy for a recut. i'm just guessing here ,even if this stone loses 1.00 ct after the recut,send it to AGS. if it comes back 2.60ct H VS2 "0 cut" it still would be a pretty good deal. i would get a independent appraiser to look at it first.

Initial response is that this stone barks. The spread is terrible, it''s very deep, the girdle swings, etc. The HCA gives it a 4.5 - good rating - buy only if the price is right. And, I would second that sentiment. The price is very good for a 3 carat g/vs stone. The cut not so great; but, I agree it''s a bluff stone. It''s not a fine make. It really depends what is important to you.

It could be that the stone has good fire.

I like DF''s idea of having it cut down to ideal proportions. It would still be a huge stone with good color and clarity. I wonder how much that would cost??

$800per ct + cert + shipping.
It could have strain and be uncutable so it would be a huge risk buying it.

Would it be possible to find out whether it has strain before purchase or is that something they won't know until they start cutting? If it could be done, it seems like it would be worth it from a financial perspective, no?

ETA: I'm confused why the EGL cert calls this cut "excellent."

After doing further research on this stone and by all of your comments we decided not to purchase the diamond...no worries I''m sure I''ll find something I like

imho in todays market the best way to buy a 4ct diamond is to find a vendor and work with them on getting one in.
They are pretty rare.

YES! the cert is a EGL USA also

Just know that EGL is softer on grading than GIA or AGS. They can say a stone is a G, but in reality it''s more like an H or an I. The same goes for clarity. I would work with GOG or WF.

I was told not to even think about a stone with a cert with EGL Israel or other funky euro EGl certs...I was under the impression that EGL USA certs were good...amd I totally mistaken?!

it survive the first cutting, why wouldn''t it survive the next one? if this is a virtual stone, maybe WF can call in the stone so brian can take a look at it.
