Hello to All,

I've completely lost it and have gone diamond nutty...I need some help making a final decision on a diamond for an engagement ring that I have already purchased. I know it's difficult to make a solid decision without seeing it, but this is what I have to work with. The ring is a very kool Simon G design with little diamonds on the sides wrapped 1/2 way around on both the matching band and the Eng. ring that she picked out. I've done a ton of research and finally i'm stuck. Prices below reflect best price with discounts on Price Scope (great site by the way). All opinions are welcome...my brain can not take it anymore.

Floresence = None, Cutlets = none for all of the below:

.79, Ideal, F, VS2, 61.2%/56%, EX/EX, V.Thin/Med, 5.97x6.00x3.66, GIA @ $3465
.83, Ideal, H, VS2, 61.3%/56%, EX/EX, Thin/Med, 6.08x6.10x3.73, GIA @ $3346
.81, Ideal, G, VS2, 61.1%/54%, EX/EX, Thin/Med, 6.02x6.05x3.69, GIA @ $3330
.79, Ideal, G, VS1, 61.8%/57%, EX/EX, Med/Sl.Thk, 5.91x5.94x3.66, GIA @ $3116

Thank you!

Hello Again,

I've gotten more info regarding crown angles and pavilion angles and had to change two of the diamonds since they are no longer available. Your opinions would help me greatly...as I need to purchase asap so I can give the dimensions and size to the jeweler who is setting it because the ring is a special order and will take 6 weeks.

The ring will have smaller diamonds around it (half way around)..the diamonds are very small and i'm told they are H-G color. The ring will be white gold with plat head. I really appreciate everyone's help. Thank you

Cmon man, you've got 4 nice diamonds here. What are you looking for? My guess is neither you nor your girl friend could tell the difference between the four if the loose stones were mixed up. Pick one and get on with it before she marries someone else!!!!!!!

I''d go with the .79 Blue Nile one, it''s cheaper and I like the girdle better.

Thanks for the reply Baby Shark....
it''s called:
SurfJimbo is psycho shopper as it is + being a perfectionist + having gone completely out of my mind with the whole diamond thing = this post.

Is this what giving birth is like?

It''s normal to be worried as this is a big purchase for you. You''re not psycho at all, just a normal guy fretting over which stone to buy. I think it''s nice!!

Thanks Kaleigh and Belle for your replies... it helps. I was looking more at the two you picked out + the .81 VS2 G. I was a little worried about the Very Thin girdle on the .79 VS2 F also.

Just out of curiosity, What is is about the .81 VS2 G that you don''t like?

It''s got a lower HCA, better color, it''s a little bit bigger and cost less, what am I missing besides it being graded by GIA which from what I can tell AGSL is much more detailed and possibly of a higher quality.

p.s. - Baby Shark - if your still around''...I was just kidding about the giving birth thing.

I''m sure you''ll make the right choice.

and then you can start planning the upgrade

of course don''t forget the ear rings , bracelet etc in between

It''s funny how most wives never get tired of getting diamonds

i wouldn''t be overly concerned about the very thin girdle. it could be just one very small spot and easily covered with a prong. when stones are graded the thinnest and thickest points are recorded. if the girdle was vthn-vthn it would mean the entire girdle was very thin but this is not the case.

a lower hca score does not mean a better stone. you can read more on the hca tutorial for information about scores.
the .81 is not remarkably bigger. look at the lxwxd measurements, it is virtually identical to the other stones. measurements mean more than carat weight.
i don''t like the angles on the .77 or the .81 that''s why i ruled them out.

LLL - Never to late for a reply...all opinions are welcome.

Looks like it boils down to these two. 1 with a better color, one with a possible better girdle and a better report.

.79 Blue Nile Sig Ideal, H, VS2, 60.9%/56.3%, EX/EX, Thin/Med, 5.96x6.01x3.64,
AGSL/GCAL @ $3410
Crown Angle = 34.5, Pavilliion Angle = 40.8, Cutlet = pointed, FL = Negligible
HCA = 1.2 EX/EX/EX/VG

.79, Ideal, F, VS2, 61.2%/56%, EX/EX, Very Thin/Med, 5.97x6.00x3.66,
GIA @ $3465
Crown Angle = 34.5, Pavilliion Angle = 40.8, Cutlet = None, FL = None
HCA = 1.2 EX/EX/EX/VG

Gee,
Roll a dice, maybe! Very little to call between the two I would say.

Anyone at BN able to look at them and advise? Or are these diamonds not on site?

I am guessing that you have a reason for only considering BN stones....

No, only the signature is from BN. The other I found on pricescope and am working with a rep at Mondera on that one. Good idea though, I wil have them look at the VS2/F to see if it''s mostly very thin, or mostly med.

Oh yeah,
I just noticed that they are not both from BN.

Best of luck with your choice!
