suggestion,
forget rap and use the pricescope search engine ^^^ up there.
Its much more realistic about real world prices than rap.

One needs to be an annual subscriber to Rapaport to obtain a price matrix from them. It is a trade oriented publication and in the hands of a consumer pretty much worthless. DIamonds are valued not only by the four things measured in Rapaport (color, clarity, shape, weight) but by a far more complex range of unreported parameters. Cut quality, popularity, scarcity, fluorescence, polish/symmetry, inclusion type/relief/location, matching, credit, terms, relationships.

I think you might get a grasp on why having a Rap sheet won''t give you nearly enough to make an informed decision. It doesn''t work for me and I know what I''m doing, so it can''t work for someone with a lot less experience very well. I have been a very long term subscriber to Rapaport and even publish a matrix of Old European Cut diamond prices for the trade both on my website and in Drucker''s Guide, but I don''t give access to the public. Because such price matrixes do not fully detail pricing nuances, it is a disservice to allow their misuse by the uninformed.

I would suggest that far more useful information exists right here, in the Pricescope search ability, for the public and even for experienced dealers who wish to know current real world asking prices and value. No more up to date and flexible information is published anywhere.
