My tuppence on Man made Diamonds

I was asked my opinion on synthetic diamonds finding their way into the natural diamond pipeline by the Aussie trade magazine:

As an aside, I didn't realise that those dead-body-to-diamond places were fraudsters - I had said to the missus she could burn me and make me into a diamond when I snuff it, but I'll have to tell her not to bother now!

Simulants do not have the same chemical and physical properties as natural diamonds and therefore sell at much lower prices than man made diamonds. Simulants can be distinguished from natural or lab grown diamonds using only the naked eye.

There is one reputable company. They are based in Switzerland - name escapes me - memorial diamonds?
I know that several others are shams who tip the ashes out.
