Lorgnette hallmark - location?

I threw caution to the winds and purchased a piece without a hallmark: judging by the workmanship, it's genuine, but I tend to be a completest. I know not all nations hallmarked, America first and foremost among them, but ....

... if you were going to put a hallmark on a diamond-studded platinum lorgnette, where would you put it?

Sorry I'm not of much help at the moment - but I'm dying to see pictures please!

He heheh, thanks, JBK! I am planning to take very detailed close-ups soon ... perhaps THEY will reveal some elusive makers mark!

Hi Circe, I am mostly just a lurker but your question got me curious. I hope it's ok. I did a google image search of "lorgnette hallmark" just to see what it might reveal and it showed some close-ups that looked like they were on the part that rests on the nose. Here is one example http://www.rubylane.com/item/510967-KAx2014kx20WGx20Lorgnette/Art-Deco-14k-White-Gold and here is another http://www.rubylane.com/item/669694-6834/Elegant-Antique-Tortoiseshell-Sterling-14K

Here is one that shows the hallmark has been worked into the design of the lorgnette http://www.lamidesarts.fr/18-K-Gold-Lorgnette-opera-glasses-1850

I hope this helps, and here is the link to my google search in the hopes that it may further aid you.

Mind? I'd have to be NUTS! Thank you so much for going to the trouble!

The nose-piece was my first thought: interestingly, it was stuffed full of red rouge, but when I cleaned it out, alas, no hallmarks. I did notice some scratched-on numbers on a few of the hinges, but that's something I've seen on other lorgnettes (I'm assuming it was the late 19th/early 20th century equivalent of labeling the pieces in Ikea furniture A, B, and C). The idea of their being worked into the design is intriguing, though ... methinks I am going to have to take hella many macro shots to see if anything pops out at me.

Warm regards,
Patty
