We are almost engaged, he hasn''t proposed yet but we have been shopping for rings.

I am so torn about this, the price limit is 4,000 and i''m not superficial about msot things but somehow a decent ring seems incredibly important! I''m sure a lot of you understand.

i am thinking of going to shane company, is that any good? I heard cut is very very important, is there an industry standard or should I buy a scope that''s advertised here? any tips? Thanks in advance!

i am having a spelling moment is "thier" spelled thier or their?

Just doing a quick search on the PS home page you can get a diamond of .90 + with good specs for in the $3,500+/- range. So, if you don''t spend a bunch of $$$ on the setting you can get close to a carat.

The cut experts will chime in on the exact parameters you should be looking for, but I think you can get a very nice ring indeed for $4K!

Type in Shane co in the search box, should be lots of threads you can read. As I recall I have heard good and bad things about them. We don''t have a Shane near me so I can''t really comment one way or the other.

i am drooling over the Mark Morrell ring posted in the ''look at my ring'' forum. beautiful!!! I want to get the best possible deal for the money but I am guessing that ring was well over 4k.

And you''d probably be right... Mark is fabulous... but you pay for it.

Unsolicited advice: Get the biggest NICEST diamond you can and get an inexpensive setting (www.phillipnoel.com click on semi mounts then look at ones under 500 dollars there are some REALLY nice ones)-- tell your fiance this... and that you''d like to reserve the right to change the setting later on. And if you buy from one of the PS vendors you get upgrade policies from many of them... which I don''t know if Shane company offers.

If this baby faces up nice and white and is eye clean (sounds like it is) it''s serious bang for buck--almost a carat but without the premium of going over 1.0 (.93, 6.29x6.27mm.) It *does* only leave you $220 for a setting, but you could get a cheapie 14k for now and work up to a new setting for an anniversary, OR spend about $280 MORE and get one of those lovely blingy PhillipNoel ones that Gypsy mentioned. ANyway, here''s one option.

(Do you like rounds? Lady Kemma also mentioned pears/ovals for lots of size/"finger acrerage" bang for buck, but wasn''t sure.)

Blue... lmao. There MIGHT be some truth to that... but if you look in colored gemstones... I''m thinking about getting it myself for a gem I just bought. Depending on how that one turns out, of course.
