We just booked our trip to Lake Tahoe in February! Yeay!

Ever since I was a little kid, my parents, brother, uncle, and cousin and I have taken a trip out west every year to go skiing. Except that from being in school I haven''t been able to take vacation at that time for 7 of the past 9 years. But this year I can take the time off, so I''m going and taking my fiance along with me!

The only problem is that my fiance doesn''t really ski. Everyone else is pretty comfortable on most terrain, but he''s only been a handful of times, and never beyond the green slopes. Hence, I''m looking for other things to do - I''m happy to give up a day of skiing for some alone time with him without the rest of the family too.

I''ve thought of going cross-country skiing. Does anyone know of any other non-skiing winter activities around the Lake Tahoe area that we could do?

There are several casinos in Tahoe. You could take a scenic drive (Placerville is about 1-1.5 hours away and is a cool little town with lots of history, would be a good destination/turn around point). You could go snowmobiling. You could go to Sierra Hot Springs in Markleeville. You could go ice skating (there''s an indoor rink). You could go snowshoeing.
