Just a little rant about ovals

I really don't think ovals are learner stones. It really has to do with your preference of cut and what works well with your fingers, ears, etc. I love marquises for earrings - so elegant in a drop (!!!) - but they don't look good on my hands. And if any of Joe Escobar's creations fell on my lap, I would feel like the luckiest girl alive regardless of the shape of the stone!!!

Sorry but I find most ovals ugly, even if a great stone otherwise. Just can't do it (sometimes if they are small and set e-w, though). They creep me. Can't get past the shape no matter how blue, well cut, saturated, . . . Apologies to anyone I offended.

I have an oval spinel that has a very high crown. It never has half/half extinction, so perhaps the high crown has something to do with that. I believe supernoval ovals also have high crowns as well, and they do not show the half/half extinction. My stone is not a precision cut gem, but a very nice native cut.
