Is there a certain combination of table, depth, girdle thickness and crown/pavilion that you would consider the "sweet spot"for a round brilliant? Just wondering!
Way back when, NiceIce listed what they considered to be "tight" specs for a superideal cut. (I''m assuming tha tis what you mean by sweet spot.) They are:
Total depth between 59 - 61.8%
Table diameter between 55 - 56%
Crown angle between 34.3 - 34.8 degrees
Pavilion angle between 40.6 - 40.9 degrees
Girdle: thin to medium, faceted or medium, faceted
Culet: GIA None or AGS Pointed
Polish: GIA Excellent or AGS Ideal
Symmetry: GIA Excellent or AGS Ideal
I find this to be a pretty good range to target, but there will always be beautiful stones outside of these ranges. It is a matter of finding the right combo of specs. (I.e. steeper pavilion should be offset by shallower crown angle, etc.) The HCA is good for testing possible performance of combos outside of these specs.
