Hey everyone,

Recently discovered I inherited this pendant. It was stuffed away somewhere because of the broken setting. Looks like a sapphire to me but I’m not positive. I thought it might be fake because of the size but the wonky cut and a few small natural looking marks make me think it was cut to preserve weight. It’s a little thick and as such, darkens up a bit inside. Thoughts? What is something like this even worth? I’m in NYC so it’s going to GIA for a report.

Dime for scale.

I have no clue, but I love when people find hidden jewelry!

Is the setting gold? I think sending it to GIA will give you the definite answer you want. The stone could be real or could be synthetic sapphire (has that very clean look, but who knows?). I would keep and wear it regardless, it’s beautiful.

It looks like the setting is white gold that has lost its rhodium coating. It's not tarnished and has a distinctly yellow look of worn white gold. I'm male so it isn't for me. I'll sell it and let someone else enjoy it, no sense in letting it sit in a safe again.

@ringo865 Thanks! She was a very cool family friend. Always quirky and interesting. To give you an idea of what type of person she was, When she was 89 or so we (at a holiday party) played Cards Against Humanity with her. She won, by a lot.
