I just had an adjustable chain put on my pendant. I never knew these even existed until today. Sometimes I want to wear my pendant in the hollow of my neck and other times, lower--to accomodate diifferent necklines. I thought of having an extra jump link put into the chain, but found this solution. I thought tihis might be helpful to others with the chain "dillemma."

Yes, the chain slides. The bit of chain with the heart gets longer as you shorten the length.

That''s such a great idea. Fashion jewellery has had adjustable chains forever, it''s about time we start seeing some of that in higher end chains. Awesome!

ooooh, and I bet that heart and extra chain helps keep the clasp in the back where it belongs! My chains ALWAYS spin and it drives me batty....

So how exactly does this work? Is there a mechanism inside the ball to keep the chain from sliding back through?

The chain and heart on the back does tend to keep the pendant centered. I believe that the ball holds the chain in place by friction, but I''m not sure. I''ve only had it for a day, but the chain length seems to stay in place--no slippage. To shorten it, you hold onto the ball and gently pull the heart. To lengthen it, hold the ball and gently pull the chain. The chain was originally 22" long. I decided on the longest point I would wear the pendant and had the jeweler cut 4" off the chain. If this is too long, I''ll take it back for a trim. I have to see how it looks with my necklines. I bought it at Christopher William Jewelers in Weyers Cave, VA.

I had to come back and take a second look at that wonderful chain. Is there a name for it? I want to check it out locally.

On my receipt, it's just written up as a 22" adj box chain.

Hmmm... Those last two links aren't working today. They worked fine yesterday. Seems like they changed the website.

Maybe you ladies ordered so many of those adjustable chains that they are sold out and they thought "We better get rid of that link pronto!!"

Anyway, the Pearl Oasis links don't work anymore, but the first two still do. Until they sell out!

Okay, I feel the need to redeem myself since my links stopped working.

Here is a vendor that has 12 different styles to choose from...

http://www.jewelbasket.com/14k-gold-necklaces-adjustable.html

Hopefully the link will continue working for at least a day or two.

Also you can go to Amazon.com and under the "Jewelry & Watches" section do a search for "adjustable gold chain" and a bunch of different styles come up.

Risingsun,

Is your chain a heavy one, so it won''t break easily??
