Dee Jay:

Please keep in mind my explanation next time - and approach it with an open mind (and not just fear). You may be incredibly surprised.

You are not just some crazy crackpot who hears things in the night! You are kinda a crazy woman; but, in a good way from my view (and us somewhat crazy people are the ones who have the most fun).

You are actually one of several on this forum who I feel could be a close friend. I know - you're a big city woman; and I'm a small city man. But I do get to Chicago from time to time. I am sure that Princess Zhanna also would like to meet you sometime. Let me know.

This is my vision of a deer mouse (I'm guessing that might not be entirely correct though!).

My parents are from the same little town up on the Mississippi River and there's lots of bats around. They like to live in attics and get lost once in a while and get into the houses. My grandmother kept an old tennis racket behind the bedroom door for just such occasions.
Bats live in the parking ramp we use at work. I had two of them escort me to my car one night.

Love the deer mouse art.

This is hysterical!! Glad the creature did not reveal itself to you; you will never have to live with any other image in your head except this one - and he's kinda cute!!

A BAT. Holy sh!t. :errrr:
My brother came home from a jobsite once (he was working kind of rural on a construction project as the engineer) with a laundry basket full of clothing. When he was going to throw stuff into the washer something moved. Turns out he had a bat in the basket. He got the basket into the garage and then it was flying around in the garage for like 20 minutes before animal control got there. He freaked out that he drove home with that thing in his car that whole time and it could've flown out at him. While we enjoy that visual of him going all Chris Farley in his car NOW, at the time, it was less amusing and he was ridiculously anal-retentive about how he stored his clothing from then on.

Ok, now this is like a nightmare!!! :errrr: I would have had a coronary on the spot if this had happened to me!

Let me start with... I think it's back. Dammit. Not as much rustling around as the first night, but all the presents (and crinkly paper) are gone from under the tree so there's less to make noise).

Perry, thanks for making me feel like less of a loon! And yes, I would love to meet Princess Z; we'll have to arrange for a gem show GTG some time!

Still alive, but definitely not happy! Yesterday I was sitting on the couch with my side to the tree (so I wasn't looking directly at it, but could see it out of the corner of my eye) and the 8 year old who was visiting (sitting at the other end of the couch facing the tree) stopped in mid-word telling me about Sage (her new American Girl Doll) and said, "Um, why are the ornaments shaking?" Why, indeed... ??? :-o

Alright, now you're not getting off so easy. I DEMAND a resolution to the story now lol! Have someone do a "shakedown"! I must know the culprit!

Yes, I really want to know too! Sounds like there is someone living in that house that doesn't eat at the dinner table!

This is killing me too! Seriously, I can't find IT! But I'm glad I wasn't the only one around when the ornaments started moving again or I really would have thought I was one step away from the looney bin. The tree will have to come down in a few days so maybe that will solve the mystery. (I'll be the one standing on the other side of the room, ready to bolt up the stairs, depending on how that undecorating of the tree goes!)

You HAVE to let us know when you find out.
It's ridiculous how many times I've checked this thread to find out the culprit.

Yes, please let us know right away if you figure it out! I have a feeling it's a mouse.

Re: I think there's something moving around in the x-mas tre

Dee Jay - I can't help it - this is hilarious. But I understand - I wouldn't want to be around whatever IT is !!

I was sitting on the floor wrapping Christmas gifts and I kept hearing a "noise". I was in my storage/extra room and I had
put my Autumn wreath on the floor nearby. After a few hours, I realized it was a rather large lizard in the wreath.
I hate lizards - they freak me out. H had to come get it!

And yep, no way would I be near that tree when it's time for it to come down !!

It was never proven beyond a reasonable doubt, but we're all in agreement that it was almost certainly a mouse!

Hopefully it found a new home outside of yours.
