Unheated Burmese rubies of good color over 1 carat are quite valuable, so it would be worth having these tested to find out what they are.

There is an easy way to test them. Find the best gemological laboratory in your country and ask them to test them. Depending on your location, the testing could be expensive, so you might ask the lab to first check that they are natural ruby then (if so) test to see if they are unheated. If so, you can have the lab do an origin report to find out where they''re from. This usually involves an extra charge. Country of origin reports are often not definitive, but Burmese rubies are usually quite distinctive and can be identified as such.

Please let us know what you find out.
