Even if you wouldn't walk out onto ice, you may be able to help someone who did and fell through.

Watch this link's excellent video from a doctor who is an expert on the subject.
Lots of what he revealed was to me very surprising and non-intuitive.

@kenny I have a pond/lake behind my house...A new neighbor’s dog ran out on to the ice and fell in. The fire department came with an inflatable pontoon boat to rescue the poor dog. Fortunately she‘s fine...I saw the commotion from my window but couldn’t make out what was going on. Good thing I found out from a neighbor after the fact. I would have been a puddle..
