How am i going to set a 9ct round? Not Eng Ring

Can't wait to see this thread brought to conclusion wiht a memorable ring!

Garry, somewhere on your website there is a large, funny-good ring in the shape of a clown's hat (six prongs tipped with colored stones around a colored round). I would think some version of that idea would make this large diamond particularly intriguing - definitely a 'conversation piece'. I don't know the wearer, though - it would take a particular sense of humor to have a piece like that done: more like Socrates' rags than the Queen's jewels

Here is an idea I think I will present next week.

It incorporates a few ideas you all gave me - the split shenks and small stones underneath (these would be grain / pave'' set all around like a diamond wedding ring, and the wires either side sweep up to make 4 prongs - sliding through a 4 claw coronet made with the same thickness platinum.

This is not completely new to science, extended parts of the shank form some of the prongs on this one too.

Au contraire, on this one below (link to source) the prongs look like some poor, twisted wires next to the massive rock (13 cts there). As long as the extensive 'wirework' does not end up looking as if hanging precariously from the diamond, why not. I can't read that in the drawing and it is not too clear how the construction rests on the finger, so that's just some random dark thought talking.

One more thing... how large are the diamonds on the shank? Taking the proportions of the drawing for granted I ened up guessing quarter carat or so, and that would be one nice departure from the ubiquitous pave

Love it Garry...I love how the prongs ''crown'' around the head of the stone. I''d make the ''split shank'' maybe a tad bit thicker to also get away from that e-ring feel but that''s just me...I think however you do it, if it looks anything like that drawing, it will be breathtaking.

This is under a shady tree, hand held little canon snappy camera on a cloudy day.

In reality the camera has captured about 1/2 the fire the eye see''s.

It is really quite breath taking. Some of my staff with 20 years experiance were gob smacked.
