Herkimer Diamond Mines

We went on a little family camping vacation, and one of the places we went to was the Herkimer Diamond Mines in Herkimer NY, an old quarry where you can go hunting for "diamonds". They are actually quartz crystals, but still they are pretty neat. It was fun to break open the rocks with hammers, and sift through the rubble. The kids really had a blast, and I thought it might be something a PSer might get a kick out of. So if your ever near Herkimer,NY (Utica, Cooperstown)check it out!


BTW Question: How much sleep do you think you get in a tent with two kids and a Labrador Retreiver?
Answer: About 20 minutes...

Haha, I grew up near there and we went a couple times on school field trips! It was always a blast. I actually found a really nice crystal once...don''t know where it is now, but I kept it for years
